Mordecai headbands

I've been thinking about this for as while but it seems to me that headbands should be able to have their connections transferred when changing Mordecai/mages.

Eg. If a Mordecai dies before their mage, the mage will still be able to be used by another Mordecai. It seems inefficient and uneconomical for the mage to need a new headband when changing masters.

So what exactly is the deal with them. Do headbands come in a set and get changed every time there is a new paring? This would mean that the old headbands may need to be remodelled/ reconfigured for a new pair before they can be reused.

Does a set come with a mage, the Mordecai changing his every time he changes mages? If this happens then if a headband does get broken for some reason, the headband set would be useless. Also, the headband would have to be refitted every time the mage changed masters, though this would be easy enough to do.

Does the Mordecai keep the set and the mage have to go through the headbanding process every time they change masters? It seems unnessecary to put the mage through that again.

Do headbands come individually and the connection be established between new mage/Mordecai pairs? This would mean that the mage and Mordecai would keep the headband for their entire lives, or until the device broke.

Also, do the headbands store any data at all. Say, if a person died, would a scientist be able to access the data in the headband to see what happened?
