Nathan wasn't much help. Cian was trying to see what kind of creativity the man had and he wasn't even trying! No matter. If speed was what was requested, speed was what he would deliver!

By this time, more of the spiders had decided that the two humans down the hallway would be an easier meal than trying to get past the door and bullets. However, it was far too late for them to do anything about it. Cian closed his eyes to concentrate for a moment, took a deep breath, and then released it, sending fire speeding down the hallway. Any spider caught in the path crackled, burned, then started to bubble. The walls and ceiling started glowing from the heat, making sure any arachnid trying to get directly out of the fire couldn't escape. Their spidery screams of pain rose over the crackle and sound of the instrument their demise, blending to make a glorious symphony of fiery death.

And then it was over. Cian bent down panting, putting his hands on his knees for support. "Whew. My lungs...ain't what...they used ta be." He said between breaths. The mage cocked his head up to survey his results. His spell had just barely reached to the door, forcing all but the bravest of the spiders scurrying away from it. "You..." He said to Nathan, panting. "You go on ahead. I think I'll sit here for a minute ta catch ma' breath."

The conflagration nearly blinded him.  Nathan turned his face away but could still feel the heat of it.  It cast an orange glow down the dark corridor behind him.  He didn't think he would ever get that sound out of his head.  Horrible, truly unique, it would replay itself in his mind for a long time.  When the roar and the heat disappeared, he peeked around the edge of the stairwell.

"Whooa," he said, and gave a whistle.  "Good job.  Take it easy, I won't be long."

He clapped the old man on the back and ventured forward, taking out a couple of clever strays who had hidden in the shelter of atmo units and an emergency suit compartment.

The door control panel had been clawed and chewed all to hell by the things.  He couldn't get it open from this side.  He gave a knock on the metal.  "We're clear.  Can you open her up?"

"Hurray!" Papillion slammed her hand against the button, wincing as it pulled on her injured leg. Pain kept shooting up it and she was a little worried about it. But nothing to be done currently.

When the man appeared, the door sliding open, she gave a friendly wave and a bright smile, "Hello! Thanks for the rescue!"
