Your Coat Is A Brownish Color.(Ironside, and Open for Crew)
« on: September 23, 2008, 05:57:57 pm »
Aryte was prepping to pull the Mitternacht in for a landing in one of those outer space stations. They were normally packed with bounty hunters, smuggler, and the like. She preferred that crowd to what was around places like Aedolis. Most people seemed to hate being out on the "edge" of space, though Aryte assume that it never really ended. There was just a spot where we all stopped knowing what came after it.

She loved it. The whole thing. It made her feel like she was at home again. A far off planet sort of on it's own mostly unknown. This edge space didn't scare her at all. She missed her family and home sometimes though. Even though contact was stable with them. Being there in person wasn't the same as text across a link.

She was playing around with the different buttons on the console while chewing on an egg shaped chocolate candy with a filling in the middle while she went through the process in her head. Her mind worked like a very random computer. So many facts just shoved in it about science, math, technology.

Sedaris was down in the engine room. He lifted his, what looked very mysteriously like an old style cowboy hat, which ended up smearing grease on his forehead. He had an engine part laying on the floor in front of his and a rag in his hand with a box of tools at his side. He was so ready to land and get going, pick up some crew, jobs then get back out into space.  He wasn't a land lubber by any stretch of the imagination.

He felt the same way Aryte did but for a different reason. He liked to be out on the edge because it got him further away from what was supposed to be his home. What started out as his home. He just preferred the world out here compared to the world over there. So many more interesting people, and races lived out in the deep space. He always used Aryte as an example if it. She always blushed and shook her head at him about that.

The memories just got so muffled out here, so distracted. It was like he got to put them in a padded box where he could just hear their whisper. There was a crackle over a speaker next to him. He heard her crinkling up the foil of one of the candies she loved to eat so much and rolled his eyes.

"Ary, you might want to make sure you don't gum up the controls you could mess up the wrong one and boom." A small chuckle came through the speaker to him.

"Sedaris, put all the parts back in the ship, cept the one that will make you explode. We're gonna make a landing." Her laughter followed her statement then the speaker died off again. He clicked the part that he had been working on back into the engine and headed towards the helm.

The Mitternacht was a ship he just loved. It was the perfect size in his opinion for the job they were doing. It had become his new home away from what use to be. It had six rooms set up like bedrooms for crew they were going to have to pick up. He really hoped they found a good cook while they were down here. Aryte could pig out on those damn chocolates all she wanted. They didn't affect her the same way they did him. And cardboard food was getting sort of old.

He got to the cockpit and stood next to the chair Aryte sat in. He loved watching her do the landings. He let his hand lay on the back of the chair. She was wiping the remainder of chocolate on her jean capris and looked back at him. Her wide happy smile greeted him.

"Ready to find another crew and get some jobs?!" She was always so excitable. She really loved Sedaris, in a family way, in a friend way and there always that little something more from both sides, though they never decided to define it.

"I'm so ready."

For Marcus, the station’s computer system was a playground. While his physical body sat cross-legged inside the terminal, part of himself was elsewhere, frolicking through the virtual space which was infinitely large and teeming with information. The protection on the system was primitive at best, and even the resident A.I. had yet to detect him, masquerading as a roving security program. As he drifted through countless subsystems, he could sense doors opening, temperatures being regulated, financial transactions (Marcus considered helping himself for a moment, but decided against it. He’s stolen from enough people this month, and it seemed fitting to do some dishonest work for a change.), messages, conversations, security feeds… the station was his oyster, yet he cracked it for leisure. Tuning out the deafening flow of information, Marcus instead only took in the occasional glimpse or snippet of data, which was still relatively chaotic, a steady flow of images, sound and information flashing around him. He would occasionally stop and focus on one which interested him particularly.

“So what are you wearing now?”
“Honey, this is a video call.”
“I know, I just thought I’d…”
“Ugh, you know what? Forget it. Your stupidity is such a
turn off.”

Marcus’ attention shifted again, this time to a ship coming in to dock. Before he could investigate any further, however, a large, loud voice resonated, causing him to break from his link with the station’s system and return fully to his body once more.
“There you are! Come ‘ere, ya little varmint!” growled a gruff, male voice as a hand as large as Marcus groped around in the inner casing of the computer terminal for the stowaway. Disorientated momentarily, Marcus fell backwards, ducking under a wire as he flattened himself against the computer’s casing.
“Thought you could root around in MY system, eh? Well, yeh got another thing coming!” boomed the technician, his hand getting ever closer to Marcus’ body.

“So do you, mate.” Muttered Marcus as his blade sprang out from its sheathe strapped to his forearm. A quick slash across one of the man’s fingers caused him to give a yelp and quickly pull his hand out of the terminal, through the hole Marcus could see him fall back onto his behind, clutching his bleeding finger. Sprinting forward and diving out into the corridor, Marcus beat his wings as fast as he could, giving the technician an obscene gesture as he flitted down the corridor as fast as he could, rounding a corner before promptly flying into someone. In that instant everything seemed to go black, all he could manage being…

“Oh bloody hell.”

…before blacking out.

Sedaris's hand was holding onto Aryte's elbow as they walked out of their ship. She always asked him to hold onto her somehow that now it was just habit really. She had a terrible fear of crowds. He often wished she wouldn't worry so much about it. All sorts of strange people lived in space. Just because hers involved a dragon sort of look. He never asked her if it had anything to do with her origin. If they wanted to be kept a secret. She was always mysterious about her home, however...who wasn't nowadays?

She would feel a little better once they got to the place where she could sit down her back up against a wall and she could see everything. She loathed crowds....hated em. She often wondered why a race that seemed dragon like could ever create something like her, she was terrified of being seen, terrified in general of people. She blamed her human side, always with a sense of humor though. Her eyes were darting around looking at every one watching for anything suspicious. Her eyes often ended up on Sedaris who always seemed so at home amongst people. She wished she could learn that. More she wished she could just pull down her goggles and disappear.

As they walked around the space station people didn't give them more than a second glance. It was hugely crowded. Random aliens and people all over the place. Some of the aliens looking just as strange as Aryte did, that still didn't comfort her much. One with a scorpion tail even walked by, an interesting looking guy of some sort. Her eyes followed him and Sedaris squeezed her elbow to keep her from getting lost. The way he treated her was somewhere between the love of a woman and the love of a child.

They moved through the crowd pretty easily. Sedaris had an art for getting through crowds by now he had been through so many. He guided Aryte next to him over to one of the ports sliding his ID through it and the ship popped up. Aryte laid her head against the side of his shoulder and closed her eyes trying not to feel dizzy. He glanced towards her and then back towards the port and started to type in some ads about a transport vessel just landing and even looking for prolonged crew perhaps. Plus the bar where they would be waiting to meet people.

He steered them away after putting his ID back in his pocket. He was leading them around a corner when Aryte jumped suddenly.

"OW!" Her hands were out in front of her, she had caught whatever ran into her...it was a little man. Her eyebrow raised and she looked at Sedaris who looked ready to hit someone until he saw what...who it was who had run into her. Confusion crossed his features. Then he pulled Aryte in front of him when a really angry man came around the corner clutching his thumb. Sedaris had her by the arms holding her close. She looked up at him with a mix of fear and hope. He was watching the man going by while looking around at everyone.

'Like a needle in a haystack.' Sedaris thought to himself. 'If he is looking for this little guy.' Then he let Aryte go and her facial expression righted itself seeing what he had been doing. She blushed a little and held out her hands for him to look at. He bent over slightly to see closer. She looked up at him a little bit of fear showing because the little guy...who looked sort of like a fairy...wasn't moving.

"Do you think he's alright?"

Marcus groaned. “Ooh… my head! complained the little man, sitting up and fluttering his wings involuntarily, yet ever so slightly. He blinked, looking at the owner of the pair of hands that held him as well as her companion, both of which were looking at him with a mix of curiosity and concern. He frowned, rubbing his head again and tasting the blood in his mouth… he couldn’t really think of anything to say in such an odd moment, did he even have to say anything? he was still pretty dizzy after all… Marcus considered sitting this one out for now and waking up at a more convenient time. Falling back into a prone position, he let darkness overwhelm him once more as he drifted back into unconsciousness.

Aryte gave an awkward smile as the tiny guy woke up slightly and looked up at her. She wasn't sure what to say at a time like this. Not your normal conversation starter...but one nonetheless. Then he passed out back into her hands again. She looked towards Sedaris her previous question dancing in her eyes again.

"What do you think Dari?" He put his hand to his forehead as she asked, looking very exasperated and speechless.

"Put him in your hoodie pocket, I guess." He shook his head at the predicament they found themselves in. Well maybe this guy would need a place to stay. Maybe come aboard with them. Be their first addition to the crew!  Assuming he had talents to their needs.

" I guess that works." She shrugged keeping her hand underneath him and sliding it into her front hoodie pocket. She kept it in the pocket to keep him from moving around and falling out as they walked towards the bar.

"Hopefully he wakes up before we take off again, otherwise I'm not sure what to do." Sedaris said. Time to go with the flow, see what happens.

"Poor thing, at least he ran into good people and not that angry man." Sedaris nodded and put a hand on her back guiding her through the crowd and pushing people away when thye were going to bump into her. It always felt good to her when he did that. Made her feel warm and protected.

They were heading towards the bar to wait and see if more crew would arrive. There had been a few interesting prospects that would be in the area at the same time they were. Who knows if they would pick up anyone at this station or not. It was certainly going to be an interesting trip that was guaranteed.

Marcus could feel a rhythmic up-and-down motion beneath him as he came to once more. His head felt much better now, and although his wings hurt he felt he could stand and walk… where was he? It was warm and dark, with soft material all around him, smothering and caressing his body, which was both comforting and alarming at the same time.

Reaching out, he could feel fibres, suggesting fabric. As consciousness returned, he noticed a hand holding him gently, its soft skin although not unpleasant, was less than thrilling for the dazed fey. Getting one arm free, he extended his wrist-blade and slashed at the fabric that surrounded him, light flooding in as he did so, causing him to blink as his eyes struggled to adjust.

Squirming to poke his head out of the opening, he looked down to see a pair of legs below him; it was evident at this point he was still being carried, but by whom? Struggling to turn around, he looked up at the face above him, a recollection coming back to him of what must have only been a moment ago, that same face that was looking down on him before he blacked out…

Well, at least the engineer was gone.

Aryte looked down as she felt him stirring then she saw him poke his head out. He had ripped open her hoodie pocket! She didn't have a ton of clothes around really! Now she couldn't keep...stuff in there! It had the chance of falling right out. Just like he did. Her hand closed a little to keep him from falling out. She still ground her teeth though.

"Hey you! Don't cut that anymore!" Sedaris looked over towards her as she screamed at her stomach. For a second he thought she had gone nuts. Too much sugar maybe? Then he followed her line of vision down to the front of her sweatshirt. He jumped a little seeing a tiny head protruding from her hoodie pocket. Not something you saw everyday at all. He sighed with relief though, it would have been rude to just leave him somewhere and Sedaris would not take someone unconscious onto a ship, you just lost too much money turning around and taking them back. It was basically kidnapping after all.

"What's your name...sir?" Sedaris was sure it would be better not to call him a little guy to his face he might not like that very much. Sedari's hand was on Aryte's should as he bent down to get closer an eyebrow raised at the guy. Aryte was bent slightly as well and gave a small smile loosing her grumpyness completely.

"I'm Aryte, and this is Sedaris."

Marcus sat there calmly as the woman carrying him gave him a scolding, before introducing herself.
"Marcus." he replied, producing a tiny cigarette which he lit with a lighter, exhaling a cloud of smoke as he tried to turn himself around in order to see where they were going.

"And just where do you think you're taking me, love?" he asked nonchalantly, tapping the stray ashes off his cigarette. In truth he was actually quite worried; his wings were too sore to use and the woman had a firm grip on him at this point, he was certain that if she wanted to she could crush the life out of him in one hand. Taking another puff, Marcus hoped she had no intentions to, but he knew that he had many enemies... was she taking him to one of them now?

Panting softly and looking around, perhaps a little paranoid of people staring Daughlie watched the pair closely as they left the newly docked ship. Only two. That meant that there might be someone still in the  ship, that meant they probably needed people. Daughlie didn’t want to be here anymore, he was personally amazed that no one had stolen his arms yet. Silently he followed the pair, his boots silent against the ground, his arms held carefully away from anything it could clang against.

How would he approach? Say hello? Would they look at him and scream? Run away? Silently he took a few steps back, his teeth biting gently into his lip and gnawing as he looked at them from around a corner. Daughlie looked down at himself with his one good eye. A tall young man, a little taller than six feet, and he drew attention to himself like a neon light. The only flesh on his face that could be seen was his left eye, his nose and his lips, the rest was covered by a seemingly ceramic mask with a design like an eye painted on it. Blue fake hair covered the top of the mask, giving him hair and white cloth was wrapped around his body, the odd metal plate giving him some form of clothing.

Daughlie had no arms, so metal replicas were in place. White cloth loosely wrapped around to give to make it look like they belonged, even though they obviously didn’t. Underneath the wrapping and the mask was quite another thing.

Quietly, nervously, Daughlie made his way to the pair. They seemed to be talking to a little doll, or some creature in the woman’s pouch. Now? Now. “E-excuse me...” His voice was soft, quiet and held an educated accent and didn’t suit his possible beastly appearance at all. Pink stretched and scarred skin could be seen on the skin off to the right of his lips and above his left eyebrow, burn marks if they could tell.

“I noticed... You two left your ship, and I was curious...” Daughlie chewed on his upper lip, a nervous habit he accuired because, while he could wring his hands, he couldn’t feel it. “I... Um.” Were they even listening?

“Could I... um... Join you? I can read several languages, and write in a few of them... And I’m good with mechanics and I... Um... I’m... Strong?”  If they gave him a quick  once over, they’d see broad shoulders and slim hips, it was likely that his torso would be lean lithe muscle, and his legs would be fairly plain.

Metal arms were probably heavy burdens. “Please take me with you, either way. I... Please.” His single good eye, a bright green one looked between the pair, while the swirl on his mask was blank of expression – Of course, it was painted on.

Sedaris grinned at the little cigarette. He wondered if Marcus rolled them himself or not. He answered for Aryte out of habit.

"We were hoping you would wake up and tell us where you need to go." Aryte smiled that Marcus had called her love. She heard someone talking and realized it was at them. She looked over her shoulder her eyes going a little wider at first. She looked over the strange man standing behind her. Her eyes went back to normal as she came back to his face. He sounded pretty desperate. Her warm smile returned to her face and she turned all the way around.

"That's what we're here for actually." When she smiled her eyes closed a little. Sedaris turned around a little after she had. He had still been distracted looking at Marcus. Sedaris jumped a little as he saw the guy. Then he steadied and smiled. He looked very interesting, very interesting.

"That's exactly what we're here for, new crew." The smile returned to Sedaris's face. I'm the one who works on the engine, and cooks badly. And this is the captain Ar..."

"Aryte." Her hand went out as she introduced herself. Sedaris's smile wavered slightly then fixed again. She seemed much more comfortable around these two new people than she ever had recently. That was good to see. She moved her hand out of her hoodie and held up Marcus.

"Introduce yourself little guy." She grinned.

[OOC Not great but I didn't want to get left miles behind o.O]

Zaki removed one of his many wires from the terminal before quickly hiding it under his hood again. He wasn’t supposed to be here and didn’t have any ID so the only way he could get onto to any stations was by hacking the security. He hated doing it, but it was necessary.

For an outer station it was surprisingly crowded and dressed in a long hooded coat, he was receiving quite a few stares. It would be worse if he wasn’t wearing it however, a lot worse.

It was because of the freakish appearance he was hiding that he was at this particular space station in the first place. Several ships came here in search of crew members and that was just what he wanted; to board a ship and leave civilised society and not have to worry about what he looked like. People were so obsessed with appearances, it was quite sickening.

Zaki stopped abruptly when he saw someone with an appearance that would definitely not be considered ‘acceptable’. Like himself they looked partly robotic, and the people he was talking to didn’t seem to be recoiling in fear at him at all or staring at him as if he were some kind of oddity.

As Zaki started towards them he caught the tail end of their conversation, so they were looking for crew. That had to be the first bit of luck Zaki had had in ages.

“Erm…excuse me, I couldn’t help overhearing that you’re looking for crew members?”

Unimpressed at being held up, Marcus exhaled a cloud of smoke as he narrowed his eyes at the man with the metal arms. Remaining silent for a second, he looked back at the woman that was holding him, before turning to face the man once more. Almost saying something, he hesitated and looked back again.
"Can you loosen your grip a little? Please? You're crushing my bloody legs!" he grumbled, taking another drag from his cigarette as he completely ignored the person he was being held up to. As yet another person walked over, Marcus gave the woman's hand a little punch, which although nothing near painful would still be enough to grab her attention.
"Oy, dearest, looks like you've got all sorts comin' after you." he said, motioning to the hooded figure.

((OOC: Teh Menu: Me, Ironside, Draco, Mia ^_^))

Aryte opened her hand quickly as she looked at Marcus a disturbed expression on her face. She couldn't help but have a slight grin though at the absurdity of arguing about something like this.

"I was trying to make sure you didn't fall down." She was giving a slight glare at Marcus but amusement still played in her eyes. "You're lucky I'm so bloody nice in the first place!" She broke out into a full smile then as she mocked him. All in good fun of course though.

Sedaris watched on a small smile playing on his face. His eyes lifted up to the other man that had just joined them. Sometimes Sedaris wished he was different on the outside. That he stood out some times. In this group he looked to be the strange one. The outcast. Though Aryte would never understand it that still swam around in his head.

Sedaris and Aryte both looked over at the same time as Marcus spoke. Aryte's smile still on her face, with a renewed happiness from Marcus's accent. That accent just made her grin she couldn't help it. Their eyes landed on the person walking up. Sedaris opened his mouth to speak and Aryte spoke first. He looked back at her with surprise in his eyes.

"You did hear that correctly." Sedaris bit the inside of his lip. She was falling into the spot she was supposed to fill with these people. He had spent so much time on her side of things, doing her job she was too scared to do, making things easy on her.  He wasn't quite sure what to do with himself now. He felt even more on the outside.

Marcus grumbled, muttering obscenities under his breath. "Me sense of balance is much better than yours, love.  I can assure you." Taking another drag of his cigarette, Marcus squirmed as he spoke again.

"Anyway, if you're offering food, money and a warm place to sleep I guess I can tag along for a bit. I'm not fussy but ladies' clothing is a favourite." he said with a mischeivous smile. "And don't worry, I can make meself useful."
