{PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION}
Noel is of average height for a young man his age. His most defining feature would be his eyes; his left eye is sapphire blue while his right eye is emerald green with brown spots. He has longish black hair with dark blue highlights, and he keeps back in a tail or a bun at the nape of his neck, or at the top of his head, to be in dress code for the ATC. However, his hair, when loose, also has a slight natural curl to it, and it brushes his shoulders. He is slim but not slight, not quite beanpole thin; there is some meat on his bones, and his body type could be defined as ectomorphic athletic. However, he does have some defined musculature, mostly in his stomach, and he wouldn’t be bowled over by a gust of wind. His skin could be classified as soft caramel, though it’s much lighter in color than it seems like it should be. This is due to his mother’s Thanati blood, which lightened the features Noel inherited from his father.
{PERSONALITY}
To strangers, Noel is aloof and somewhat cold and unapproachable. However, this is not the case. He’s simply shy, and rarely will be the first to approach someone that is essentially a stranger to him. Noel also has a hard time making friends because he’s always certain that they’re going to leave him. Therefore, he doesn’t open himself to anyone, and keeps a stoic mask upon his face in order to prevent people from choosing to get close to him. However, he does have a strong sense of right and wrong, and won’t stand idly by when he sees someone being bullied or pushed around, even if the bullies are bigger than he is. To those he knows well - family and the few friends he’s managed to keep despite his cold and indifferent demeanor - Noel is a warm and happy individual, and has quite a decent sense of humor that shows itself in off-color jokes and random commentary.
He is mostly quiet, keeping to himself, and quite loyal to his friends, family, and country. Noel is a determined sort, willing to push himself to any length in order to achieve a goal or further a design. But there is a dark side to Noel, one he’s not quite sure where it came from. Perhaps it’s the fact that he’s pyrokinetic, or for some other reason, but Noel has a temper that he will lose his grip on if pushed to the breaking point. When that happens, he will destroy whatever is in front of him, regardless of whether or not it ought to be destroyed. Even without losing his temper, he will fight to the end, whether it’s for himself or someone else, and he will never give up, even if things look bleak. He will also do his best to come to the rescue of his friends and family, though being in the ATC currently makes some of that difficult.
Fun Facts:
- Has asthma. Noel has always had this condition, ever since he was small. He manages to keep it under control with medicine, and a special inhaler, but this condition becomes aggravated when he breathes fire.
- Despite hailing from Ryun, Noel actually dislikes sushi and raw fish dishes
- His favorite color is teal
- He makes a point of writing a letter to his grandmother every day, but he destroys them once he’s done writing them. There are some things his non-Pilot family is better off not knowing.
{SPECIAL ABILITIES}
Telepathy - Noel possesses middling-strength telepathy, such that he can potentially talk to others over long distances, but he has yet to actually put this to the test.
Pyrokinesis - Noel is a rather strong pyrokinetic, such that he can control flame with just his thoughts. He can touch flames, mold them like clay, and use it in various ways, guiding the flames with his hands. Unlike his cousin, Noel can only control natural flames, and even then, mostly it’s his own flames that he can control easily. With more training, Noel could be quite dangerous with his ability.
Pyrogenesis - Noel can generate his own flames, but only from within. He can literally breathe fire by generating flames within his lungs. How he does this is unknown, but once he inhales deeply, he can ignite the air within his lungs and breathe it out in a steady stream. However, once he runs out of air, he has an incredibly difficult time breathing regularly.
Pyro-immunity - Like his cousin, Noel is immune to fire... to an extent. His own flames cannot harm him, but his body can only withstand up to what would be third-degree burns on a normal person. Anything hotter and Noel will begin to feel the heat and his body will burn.
{RELATIONSHIPS}
Mother - A Pilot herself, she never quite pushed past the rank of Echo. It isn’t quite clear if this is because of her own behavior or because she simply doesn’t want to advance. She is the youngest child of her family, and such spurned the family traditions held tight by her parents (Noel’s grandparents) and her older siblings. She found the life afforded to her by being a Pilot was far preferable to the one she’d grown up with, which was a constant shame to her parents. It was during one of her “rebellions” that she had a one night stand with another Pilot fourteen years ago and gave birth to Noel. The only concession she would give her parents as to the identity of her child’s father was his last name - Seward. She also abandoned Noel to be raised by his grandparents, aunts and uncles, and various cousins, and only visited her son when she felt like it or she needed something from the family. Noel doesn’t consider her his mother at all. He also has no relationship with his father, and he isn’t sure if the man knows he exists.
Pilot Cardinal Ryan Teaona - Noel’s maternal cousin, she keeps tabs on Noel ever since she found out he had been drafted into the ATC. Before he went in, Ryan was a strong but sometimes fleeting presence in his life, but he always felt connected to her, for some reason he couldn’t explain. Now he believes it’s because they share the same power and abilities.
Candidate Velas Lougrid - Noel met Velas in Stage One when he inadvertently interfered in a bullying session. Though he didn’t quite make it out unscathed, Noel didn’t blame Velas for the bruises he sustained. Rather, he made a joke about it, and then he made sure that no one would bother Velas again. This meant he was around the Tsumi almost all the time and it led to them becoming best friends. Velas is probably the only one Noel trusts enough to let down his mask of indifference around, outside his own family.
{BACKGROUND NOTES}
Noel had a relatively normal childhood, if you discount the fact his mother basically abandoned him to the care of his grandparents and various aunts and uncles and older cousins. Noel never really knew his mother beyond this woman who’d show up on occasion and give him things he really didn’t want and take him places that probably weren’t meant for a seven year old to see before disappearing again for months without word. His grandparents gave him the love he craved, and so did his extended family when they were around, but Noel still kept himself closed off to most other people and never let anyone get too close. The only person he really opened up to before the ATC was his cousin, Ryan. Before she deployed on her first assignment, Ryan spent quite a bit of time with Noel, and the two became quite close, despite the significant difference in their ages. She would stop by and visit with him whenever she could, and once she had finished her first deployment and became a full-time racer, she made a point of visiting him as she went from dome to dome for races.
A little after his thirteenth birthday, Noel was tested, as all thirteen year olds are, and presented with telepathy as well as pyrokinetic powers, as evidenced when he had an asthma attack during the exam and ended up breathing fire just before he could use his inhaler. It was then that it was discovered that he, too, was immune to fire - at least his own - and that he could assert some control over the fire. Of course, after the fire was finished, he needed to take several breaths on his inhaler just to be able to breathe normally again. Obviously the original attack and subsequent one was mostly due to panic and embarrassment, and he was shocked that he could control it even a little bit, because it was quite surprising to him that he even had power. To Noel’s knowledge, the only people in his family who were Pilots were his mother, his father, and his cousin. Now that he’s made it to Stage Two, Noel is well on his way to becoming a Pilot, if he can survive long enough to graduate.
