{PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION}

Sheyla is tall with powder-blue skin and dark sapphire blue irises with a slightly lighter blue sclera. Her hair is long and deep-ocean blue with a gentle gleam to it. She usually keeps it in a smart braid that winds about her head, similar to a crown, with several locks draping down the sides of her head before her ears. When she isn’t working, she’ll leave her hair loose, which falls to the small of her back in a soft, luxurious wave. She is slim and athletically built, with gently defined muscles from a strict training regimen. Her face is generally impassive, and she rarely shows emotion, keeping a strict, almost stoic mask upon her face. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel emotion or won’t display it in public - she’ll laugh, yell, cry, and whatever else, but usually where no one sees her do it - and the only emotion she will display will be a soft smile when she wins a case, just the slight lifting of the corners of her lips, or there will be a hardness to her eyes when she loses a case, as if she considers it a particular affront to her abilities.

While working, Sheyla wears her military-issued uniform on an almost daily basis, always giving a professional air. When she isn’t at work, she prefers soft cloth pants, short-sleeved shirts and thin sweater-coats. Her casual dress is always functional, whether for staying home or going out, whichever she might choose to do. When she isn’t trying to portray a professional and serious demeanor, she smiles more readily, and her expressions are softer and more genuine. That isn’t to say her expressions and emotions while working aren’t real - they are - but she keeps her personal and professional life separate as much as possible, and ensures that her clients always get her at her best.

{PERSONALITY}

Fiercely independent, Sheyla has been on her own since a very young age (for her species) and has taken care of herself since then. She doesn’t quite like it when someone comes in and starts telling her what to do and how to do it, especially when they really don’t know what they’re talking about. She understands the dynamics of rank and file, however, and is extremely polite and respectful, especially when she’s dealing with someone who outranks her, but there’s always a tinge of ice to her voice when she feels as though her independence is being infringed upon. She will never offer any insult, and she will never say anything that she doesn’t believe in, but that doesn’t mean she won’t think nasty things about the person and complain in private. She believes in finding justice, and so will pursue every lead and every avenue available to her in order to find it. It doesn’t matter to her which side of the room she’s on, so long as justice is served at the end of the day.

To those who know her, she seems to have two personalities - one in the courtroom and one in public. In the courtroom, Sheyla is strict and no nonsense. She is emotionless (to a point) and matter of fact, though she knows exactly when a smile or a slight joke can lighten the mood and potentially turn the tide in her favor. Outside of the courtroom and the office, Sheyla is quiet and unassuming. Her emotions come more readily and show more easily upon her face, as if she finds it easier to smile when she isn’t working. She doesn’t advertise the fact that she’s a Pilot if she goes out on the town, though some do recognize her. Sheyla doesn’t exactly like the attention her status brings her, but she understands why and accepts it. She doesn’t believe that she should be treated as a celebrity for what she does. She works for her country, her country does not work for her.

Fun Facts:
- Often burns the midnight oil, especially when she’s working on a case. She can become so involved with something that she forgets to eat sometimes.
- Can read 10,000 words per minute, although she often takes her time with case files so she doesn’t miss a thing. Something could be extremely important.
- To relax, she enjoys a long soak in a bubble bath, with a glass of sweet wine
- Likes to cook, but often doesn’t have time, and so frequents convenience stores and local take-out restaurants

{SPECIAL ABILITIES}

Telepathy - Sheyla has mid-grade telepathy, such that she can communicate to anywhere within a 300-yard radius around her. She uses this mostly to communicate with Zia, asking the dragon to access certain files and records for her that she needs for her cases.

Telekinesis - Sheyla possesses strong telekinesis, such that she can throw or pull things ten times her size and weight with little effort. She uses this in her own office to retrieve things without having to get up from her seat or move from a space, and she can use it to defend herself.

Empathy - Sheyla has rather strong empathy, but is a receiver only. This ability allows her to sense what people are feeling and steer the conversations she has in the directions she wishes them to go. She knows when to push and when to back off, and how what she’s saying is affecting her audience. She often uses this ability to aid her in her work.

Eidetic Memory - Sheyla can recall anything she has ever seen and heard, able to review her memories for a few minutes in order to recall details. The ability is not without its issues, for it’s not quite perfect recall, but for the specific detail she needs, it’s as clear as if she’s seeing it for the first time again. She can never forget anything, however, it isn’t like she’s permanently burdened with these memories. At any point, she can recall any event of her life. This is not limited to just visual memories, but auditory and tactile memories as well.

{RELATIONSHIPS}

Lahasa N’hisi - Bibi, deceased. Her bibi found her Resonance early in her life, and for a long time, life was good. She made a good home for herself and her Resonance, and yearned for the one thing that would make her life complete - children. It was a source of frustration that it took Lahasa a long time to become pregnant, such that her Resonance was nearly in his seventies before a seed finally planted. She died a month after Sheyla entered Candidacy.

Syrin Bahalu - Opo, deceased. He didn’t quite understand what was going on when this tall elf kept following him around, but he liked the attention, and soon enough, came to like Lahasa. Life was good for a long time, until he began to age and Lahasa stayed the same. He was nearly into his seventies before she became pregnant with their only child. He died long before Sheyla became of age to be tested. He knew his daughter only in her infant years.

Strelitzia (Zia) - Sheyla’s dragon partner, a dusky violet-scaled female dragon about the size of a fully-grown elephant. Zia is fond of mysteries and whodunnits, and she most definitely prefers it when her Pilot wins, no matter what it is that Sheyla is doing. To Zia, everything is a contest and Sheyla ought to win every time. While she understands the concept of loss, Zia dislikes it and feels as though Sheyla should have tried harder, even when the loss wasn’t even really Sheyla’s fault. She has one fully mechanical wing and half her skull and neck down to her left shoulder is mechanical.

{BACKGROUND NOTES}

Sheyla was born to an odd Resonanced pair of a Starstrider and a human. She was their only child, late in the human’s life and early in the Starstrider’s. For her species, Sheyla was only an infant when her opo passed away, and her bibi was never the same. A month after Sheyla was tested and drafted into the ATC, her bibi died. Sheyla never knew what the circumstances surrounding her bibi’s death were, but the idea that she’d died by her own hand was a constant thought in Sheyla’s mind. That thought, and how fleeting life was, made her strive toward what her future career would be - serving her country by seeking justice for those who couldn’t find it themselves. She threw herself into studying law and advocacy, as well as dedicating herself to being a soldier. Her powers limited her combat status, but she was still able to distinguish herself in other areas, and by the time she was able to leave the field, she had earned herself the title of Pilot Noble. She then entered the Ministry and became a lawyer, both prosecuting and defending individuals, and all the while she listens, waiting with apprehension and excitement for the song that matches her own.
