Rhyrec Gunder, Mercenary

THE CHARACTER
* = required field
*Name: Rhyrec Gunder
*Gender: Male
*Species: Yavarian  (humanoid type species, will explain later)
*Rank and/or Occupation: Ex-fighter pilot of the Sancta System (somewhere across the galaxy)
Currently: Mercenary/Jack of all trades
*Location: Nomadic
Age: 34 human years
Personality:  Rhyrec, like all Yavarians, is a peace loving fellow and hates unnecessary violence.  Yet it is essentially ironic at how such a peaceful people developed what came to known as the Yavarian Fighting Arts.  However these arts were used to teach a strong sense of discipline to younglings at an early age and learning how and when to use it to maintain peace was the key principle.  Even after he left his home planet, he still kept these values of discipline and peace for his life.  He does have a mean streak when the mood sets him (which is rarely ever) and is definitely a force to be reckoned with when he’s determined to be so. Over all, Rhyrec is a nice guy to talk to and loves being around others, though solitude is a welcome asylum from spending hours in a cantina.

Also, he has an amazing gift for ingenuity and creation, as can be said of most of his race.  It takes little time for him to study an object and learn the intricacies of it almost completely.  He has a passion for learning new things and meeting new people.

Appearance: Standing at an intimidating 6’7”, it should come as a surprise to say that Rhyrec is actually the shortest in his family.  Yavarians are notoriously large sentient humanoids (similar to humans in skin pigmentation and physical structure) with little exaggeration in saying that he fits the profile rather well.  He’s very muscular and his strength is, in the least, measuring up to about 15 xs that of what a well developed body-builder can lift.  He has yellow-blonde hair and glittering blue eyes that can pierce through you without much effort.  From a distance, it’s quite obvious that this being stands out in a crowd of average humans with his deep red long jacket (think DMC’s Dante) and impossibly yellow hair.  Usually he can be seen wearing his heavy pistol’s at his sides.
Background: Things were different then.  Back then was a time of preservation yet peril, a time of respite yet action, a time of peace yet war.  It was then that Viper Corp. came.

In deep edges of space resided the Sancta System with Yavar as its primary planet and so named due to the peace that was kept between all there.  For years, these beings, regarded for their arts in war and invention, kept the peace until the emergence of a military corporation that sought expansion and resources there.  Led by General Viper (of a reptilian species that I will name later), they first tried to negotiate with the Yavarians to extract ore and other natural materials indigenous to the barren planet below.  It was well-known in their history that Yavar was made a wasteland due to cataclysmic events that forced all the survivors to inhabit each of the five jungle moons.  No Yavarian in their right mind would or could survive the harsh conditions of the planet below with nothing to live off of but the dirt and sight by the glaring sun that was nearly blocked by clouds of dust.  Yet most of the planet’s useful materials were hidden deep beneath the planet’s inhabitable surface.

After several futile attempts to sign legal contracts with the Yavarians, Viper Corp. decided to take matters into their own hands and then forced their entry onto the forbidden planet, taking many Yavarians as unwilling slaves due to their sheer size and strength.  Rhyrec, too, became one of these slaves and worked for the hellish part of a year upon Yavar’s unbearable surface before breaking free, stealing a starship and returning to Yavar II.  In the midst of his absence, his people were in a panic and flurry, perplexed on what to do about this “Viper Problem”.  With his help, they were rallied into a fighting force that combined their technical ingenuity and psychic prowess to wage a full-scale war against the corporation.  With the moons united, the ten year Viper Wars soon ended with Rhyrec killing General Viper himself and returning victorious to his people.

Yet this had not satisfied him.  All his life he had been looked in contempt by his elders and friends due to the fact that he cared little for Yavarian ways, heeding only discipline and respect for those that deserved it.  Though he was reared in a loving home, it was apparent that no one respected him, as he was the ‘runt’ of the litter.  Even as he came back after wiping out the slave drivers, he was little respected and many felt that he merely participated in the war just for personal glory.  He took this as a sign that he was no longer welcome to his home world and hasn’t returned since.

Currently: He’s anywhere you need him to be, always looking for work.

Anything else you'd like to add?  I’ve covered that Yavarians are basically really large humanoids with great strength and durability.  However they are different in that, despite their brute-like stature, they are a wise race with incredible psychic powers that include mind-manipulation, telekinesis, and even premonition (rare).  After careful study, all the Yavarians enslaved had inhibitor chips placed into their brains to prevent them from using their mental abilities.  However there was something flawed in the one in that was put in Rhyrec’s brain; thus he was able to use his power to help him escape.

Though it is true that every member of this race has psychic ability, Rhyrec’s own is abnormally powerful, far more than the average of his people.  However, the inhibitor chip that remains in his brain, though damaged, prevents him from reaching his full potential.  Still, what resides is certainly a forced to reckon with.  He’s particularly talented with mind-manipulation and can suppress his presence so that even ordinary people can’t detect him if he’s standing beside them or to make one forget what it was they were thinking or to probe another’s mind for information.

Currently he’s probably seeking work as a freelance pilot; he doesn’t feel like building/buying his own ship.
