{PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION}

Reyes is shaped like an upside down triangle with defined musculature from both his daily exercise and training regimen, and from long hours of working on the family farm, both from childhood and from frequent visits, since he’s an Inquisitor in his home dome. He keeps his curly, dark hair long and loose, but he’ll pull it back when he’s working and sometimes even braid it. He has the same warm honey-brown eyes that his brother possesses. His skin-tone is a soft brown, and his face is ruggedly handsome, with a dusting of a constant five o’clock shadow along his jawline, his upper lip, and chin. He tries to keep clean-shaven because if he doesn’t, he’s often mistaken for his identical twin brother, as no one can tell the difference between them if they were to stand side by side. But, sometimes, it’s an exercise in futility.

When not required to be in uniform, Reyes prefers wearing boots, jeans, and button down shirts of various colors. If he’s at his own home, he’ll forgo shoes and walk around barefoot all day, even when he goes outside. When he’s on the farm, his ensemble will often include a black cowboy hat. The only jewelry Reyes wears is an antique silver cross charm necklace that his grandmother gifted him before she died. He swears he can still feel her lingering emotions, thoughts, and feelings in the silver.

{PERSONALITY}

Reyes is a bit of a miscreant and jokester, often being the one to diffuse tense situations with his charm or a quip that puts people off guard. It helped that he was already using his empathic abilities a bit as a child, as when he and Isandro would get into potential fights he would already know the other children - especially their many cousins - were angry or hurt or upset and he would be able to stop the fight before something terrible happened. His psychometry also presented at an early age, because he would be able to pick up an object and know who had handled it and what they’d said while handling the object. Being able to pick up thoughts came later, during his Candidacy, as he was able to receive the training he needed to harness that power.

But just because he primarily uses charm or humor to diffuse situations doesn’t mean he can’t hurt someone. Reyes knows just how to hurt a person, and will do so without even touching them. It’s far easier to emotionally force someone into submission than it is to beat them up, after all, and it requires less paperwork. While his strength doesn’t exactly lie in projecting emotions onto a person, with enough concentration, he can do so. His skill lies in picking up on what people feel, so he can find out what makes a person vulnerable, and once he does, he will abuse that feeling ruthlessly until they tell him what he wants to know. Reyes is also quite skilled in hand-to-hand combat, is a decent marksman, and has never backed down from a fight.

Fun Facts:
- He has a habit of cursing in his native tongue, and will speak it when he’s expressing anger at someone or something
- His two most favorite desserts are flan and churros with caramel dipping sauce
- Reyes is a competent boxer and will sometimes enter local tournaments
- His secret vice is watching telenovelas

{SPECIAL ABILITIES}

Telepathy - a moderate telepath, Reyes can communicate to anyone within his sight. If he knows the person’s mind personally, he can potentially reach them at any distance, although he’s never tried.

Psychometry - Reyes can hold an object and know things. Even as a child, he would be able to pick something up and know who handled it, what they said, and what they thought as they did so, and it always freaked his mother out that he would tell her things that her mother said if he was holding a family heirloom. It takes him a little longer to get a perceive things in a room, but once he does, he’s fairly accurate.

Empathy - Reyes primarily picks up emotions from people, which made it really hard for Isandro to lie to him (and still does). He can project emotions if he concentrates, but it’s easier for him to disarm people with his charming smile and easy-going manner, thus getting them to drop their guard.

{RELATIONSHIPS}

Isandro Montoya - Reyes’s older brother by two minutes. Isandro never had much more ambition than to inherit his family’s farm and open a restaurant. In both of those, he succeeded. He’s proud of his little brother, and looks forward to his visits, since it means a little extra help for a few days.

Parents, Miguel and Blanca Montoya - Though in their twilight years, their parents are still around and live on the ranch with Isandro.

Imerun - Reyes lovingly calls him “Naranja” for the fact that his scales are colored the same as burnt sienna. All four limbs are mechanical, as are his wings. He enjoys spending time on the farm, not that he’ll ever admit it, and is always thrilled when Reyes brings him some of Isandro’s cooking. He also considers the farm his territory when he’s there, so beware the neighbor’s dog.

{BACKGROUND NOTES}

Reyes is the second son born to Miguel and Blanca Montoya, two minutes younger than his identical twin brother, Isandro. Growing up, Reyes dreamed of a life beyond the family’s farm, and anxiously awaited the day he could be tested and get into the Candidate program, unlike his brother, who was happy living on the farm and had a different dream. Even as a young child, Reyes was different from his brother, able to do things that Isandro couldn’t, such as being able to hold an object and know things about the last person to handle it, and being over-sensitive to other people’s feelings and knowing what to do to make them feel better or diffuse a situation. Reyes’s strange abilities made it extremely hard for Isandro to lie to him, which meant Isandro owed Reyes a lot of solids.

When they were fifteen, both boys were tested, but only Reyes had the required abilities. Being separated from his brother and his family was terribly hard on Reyes, but this was what he had wanted since he was little, and he threw himself into it, knowing that, on the outside, Isandro was throwing himself into his dreams as well. Even though they couldn’t see each other until Reyes had graduated, they maintained a steady sibling rivalry. Reyes was eventually assigned to his home dome as an Inquisitor, and has been there ever since.
