[OOC Set 7 years ago]

Let’s see…white, white, white and oh look white…

When your hair was white, white rooms were some of the most boring in the world. Every time you looked in the bathroom mirror to brush your teeth your saw your white hair so you would see white at least once a day.

The white haired pilot candidate glanced around the room every few minutes; as if it would suddenly become interesting in the time she looked away. Today was orientation for her to become a pilot candidate and her mother had made her get there way too early, no one else was there yet.

Latona sighed and tapped her fingers on the desk. Boring. There had to be some way to amuse herself. Maybe she could make everything in the room float?...Nah, too easy.

She yawned and fluttered her wings a little. Like her hair and the room they were also white, and feathery. If she didn’t look so bored she might pass as an angel. Latona was far from an angel though as anyone who tried to teach her would discover.

She leaned back in the chair and stared at the ceiling.

     “Also white,” she thought aloud.
However she noticed one of the lights was flickering slightly now. You’d think with dragons around little things problems like that wouldn’t happen.

She leaned back a little further on her chair and suddenly found herself on the floor.

“Ow…” she moaned, “That would have been embarrassing if anyone was around.”

Was that punishment for implying the dragons weren’t doing their job? Could dragons control the furniture?

Latona crawled off the chair and looked at it warily. She jabbed it with her finger and discovered that it didn’t give her an electric shock. It was probably safe.

Just be careful though she added, “Sorry dragons!”

Maybe they couldn’t hear her, but still, it didn’t seem like a good idea to piss off the dragons on her first day especially when they were bigger than her and could possibly eat her.

She got up off the floor and sat back on her chair, nursing her wings. Damn they hurt, they were a soft thing to land on so her back was okay but her wings really hurt. She had lost count of the number of times she had bent them the wrong way or trapped them in something, they could be very inconvenient.

Latona slumped onto the desk resting her head on her forearms and glanced around the room again. The whiteness was starting to drive her crazy.

It was then the door finally slid open.

     “I’m not late then.”

Stood in the doorway was an odd looking boy. He looked about her age and had purple hair…how strange. Then again she had wings so who was she to judge. Still she had never seen someone with purple hair before.

     “I am not strange.”

Had he just read her thoughts?

     “Hey! Don’t read my mind!”

That was just plain rude. He wasn’t a pilot yet and he should ask before he started rooting round in people’s heads.

Fine she could play that game too. Since he was going to pry so was she. Latona brushed across his mind and found the bastard was blocking it. That was unsporting.

“It’s your fault if you think so loudly.”

Latona growled then sat back with her arms crossed. She did not think loudly! And if she did it was because her thoughts were far superior. The angel already knew she didn’t like this guy. Hopefully the other candidates wouldn’t be assholes as well.

“Your name’s Latona? What an odd name.”

“Stop reading my mind! And it isn’t strange Mr Purple Hair.”

Latona wasn’t a strange name; it was a normal Aedolian name which her foster parents had given her. It meant Goddess.

The boy sighed and sat down at a desk near the door. He leant his elbow on its surface and rested his head on his hand.

“My name is not Mr Purple Hair. It’s Alei.”

That certainly was a strange name Latona thought, more so than Latona. ‘Alei’ sounded gay. He kind of looked it as well. It was a shame really, despite being rude he was actually quite cute. Didn’t they say the best guys always had boyfriends? Oh well…She then remembered he could read her thoughts.

Alei looked at her annoyed before turning his head sharply away from her as if offended. She had said he was cute, why was he offended…Oh probably the gay comment. Oops.

     “White haired whore.”

What did he just call her? ‘White haired whore’? Should a teenager say thins like that? No one had ever called her that. It didn’t matter, people who insulted her paid in pain and he was going to pay for that. She stood up abruptly and marched over to him.

     “What. Did. You. Call. Me?”

He glanced at her, looked her up and down and said, “A white haired whore.”

The next thing he would feel would be a rather powerful fist hitting him in the face and knocking him to the floor.

Alei spat out some blood onto the floor, he didn’t turn to look at her but simply said, “That wasn’t very lady like.”

Now he had made her angry and she was going to make him see she was not an angel. She charged at him and grabbed his wrists. Then twisting them slightly she turned him round so she was facing his back before placing her foot between his shoulder blades. She paused for effect before pulling his arms back very hard.

He squealed, which was a rather nice sound to Latona, she loved it when cocky boys who insulted her screamed. She pulled back just a little bit further making him squeal again. If she kept going for long enough maybe she’d dislocate both his shoulders. It would serve him right. No-one insulted her and got away with it.

Then the door slid open again. Whoever was about to come in was going to see a rather interesting scene. The purple haired freak deserved it though.

Latona smiled nervously at the newcomer.

Oh Em Gee Tiny Satori.
« Reply #1 on: June 15, 2008, 03:54:17 pm »
A giant scorpion tail wasn't that weird was it?

Satori kept wondering that as she walked through the halls of the ATC, trying to find the room she was looking for. She kept picking up random snippets of people's minds as they thought about her. Their feelings too. Apparently there weren't that many people with giant tails. They road dragons here! Psychics everywhere! A tail couldn't be so abnormal right? She had a feeling she might be lying to herself.

Her face was flushed as she move through the halls. Being the new girl with a weird tail was going to be hard here she imagined. She was so nervous, but a much bigger part of her was excited. She had been waiting for this day for a long time. The day she would really begin her training. She had known about her powers for so long but had never been really able to hone them. Her father said she had a natural at her gift. She felt differently, she couldn't control it as much as she wanted to. Her feelings seemed to control it more than skill. Sometimes things exploded was the end result. She really hoped nobody knew her mother Amelia Clare. She always got people asking her about Amelia. She was her step-mother, some sort of movie star. She tried to forget she existed most of the time.

Her father had been in the military from a younger age, so he was overjoyed when he saw her powers rise. He had told her about her real mother often, she had psychic powers as well. She ran away and kept hers a secret when she was younger. Satori closed her eyes for a second still feeling everyone around her. Trying not to think of her dead mother. She wished she had stayed, so that she could have helped Satori. This was all too much for her, with no one close to her to talk to about it.

Her face turned into a frown then she stopped dead her eyes lighting up as she saw the door she was supposed to go to. She tucked her tail tighter against her back as she crossed through the hallway trying not to run into anyone. Her one hand touched the door carefully, feeling the energy of the room behind the door. Satori let a quick breath out, the room didn't feel at peace at all. She pulled her wrist up looking at her organizer and checking the time. She wasn't late was she? Her fingers pushed a couple button on the organizer on her wrist and she smiled, a perfect gift from her Dad for going through the program. She wanted one forever and she finally had one!

She took a deep breath and slid the door open slowly. She took a step back as the wave of feelings in the room hit her. Fear, anger, and annoyance. She was glad though to see two people about her age and not a pilot who was angry. This was certainly an interesting sight. She tilted her head at the two, she noticed the wings on the girl and smiled a little at least she wasn't the only one with something a little extra.

"Um...Hi..." The girl with the wings wouldn't look that threatening if she couldn't see the quickly forming red mark on the boys cheek. But any girl who could kick a guy's ass was fine with Satori. The girl just looked like she got caught stealing cookies from the jar, not like she was gonna beat anyone up.

"Did he...uh...call you a name or something?" She gave a nervous chuckle.

Latona was relieved to see that the newcomer was not a pilot but someone around her age, more likely a fellow candidate. She was a weird one as well; she had a freaking scorpion tail! Latona had been worried she’d be the only one with an extra appendage but no, there was a girl with a scorpion tail. You certainly didn’t see one of those everyday. It was strange but looked pretty cool, the girl could probably cause some serious damage with it.

“Yeah, and now he’s paying pain,” Latona said cheerfully.

She released him and Alei fell to the floor in a heap.

     “What a wuss,” Latona thought.

She knelt down next to him and said, “You aren’t going to be insulting me again are you?”

There was a muffled “Go to hell bitch.” But she decided to forgo any further punishment.

Getting to her feet again she addressed the other girl, “Hi, I’m Latona. You’re tail is awesome by the way.”

Satori slid in past the two watching the girl threaten him more. There was already violence! The class hadn't even started it. She had heard of teaching methods and expected it from the teachers and not so much the students. She smiled, trying to just be nice and not draw too much attention to herself...the the tail counter acted that a little bit.

"My name's Satori, and thanks." She smiled a little. It was nice to hear good things about her tail once in awhile. She shuffled her feet a little and set down her books on the nearest desk as she looked down at the boy still on the ground. She felt worry wash over her and knelt down next to him to check on him.

"Are you gonna be alright?" She handed him a bandanna from one of her pockets to wipe his face off. He looked pretty beat up. "You should probably keep the bandanna though." She gave a small smile trying to reassure him some.

Oww…Alei thought. When ‘Latona’ had him in that weird hold which bordered on pro-wrestling, something he absolutely abhorred, all his mind had been abale to register was pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain shit pain pain pain pain…

Now she had let go he was able to think more clearly. The pain was still there, just a lot duller now. He also noted that someone else had entered the room and he vaguely recalled thinking ‘I’m saved’ when they came in.

She had a pretty lethal looking scorpion tail though so maybe she wasn’t much better than the neurotic bitch Latona.

“I’m alright…” he said pushing himself to his feet.

He didn’t take the bandana though, he didn’t want the white haired whore to think he was beaten. He did however note that around Latona, caution must be exercised at all times. She was insane, volatile and had a short fuse. ‘Satori’ he wasn’t so sure about. She didn’t seem the type who could be read in the first few minutes. Alei preferred such people; they were a lot more interesting.

He slumped back into his desk, damn his shoulders hurt. She had nearly dislocated them the psycho, white haired, winged freak. And he suspected that the pilots would be more ruthless than her. Still watching Latona in pain would be funny. Maybe he could use his powers now and break those pretty wings of hers… In his head he began calculating the risk.

/////////////////

“What a wuss,” Latona muttered as Satori checked Alei was okay after his punishment, “Just leave him, the pilots will do worse things than me.”

It also seemed Alei was a typical alpha male. He didn’t take Satori’s bandana; he just got to his feet and sat down at his desk. He looked like he was going to kill something, it was actually quite funny. And added to that he kept glancing towards her with daggers in his eyes. So she had made an enemy already, oh well.

She slumped down on her desk smirking at the purple haired boy. He didn’t look so pretty now, he looked pale and sweaty and unruffled, heheh. She continued laughing at him, until she her wings started feeling strange. It felt like someone was squeezing them, but only Alei and Satori were in the room…Alei! He wasn’t…no he couldn’t be!

Then she felt something snap. Unable to stop herself, she screamed much like her unfortunate victim only moments ago.

     “Get off!”

She felt another bone break, then another and another. Alei was gradually breaking every bone in her wings. Realising she couldn’t talk sense into him, she looked at Satori pleadingly.

“Make him stop!” she gasped before her vision went black.

She felt herself falling and hitting the floor before she passed out.

[OOC Lol I an see a rivalry in the making ^^]

Satori shrugged and got to her feet as the boy pushed past her. Sliding the bandanna in her pocket she went to find her seat. She glanced at the seat next to Latona and thought better finding a seat at a table next to her. Better to show no favor in a fight like that.

She sat her books on the desk arranging them for a minute and then sighed and started to play with her organizer on her wrist. Then a snapping sound echoed in the room she looked over at Latona who was screaming and she could see her wings moving like someone was snapping them and breaking them, but there were no hands. Satori sent a snap of power towards Alei as she heard Latona scream for help.

She rushed out of her chair knocking it over onto the floor and kneeling down beside Latona. She checked her pulse and sighed in relief when she found it was strong. She put a hand on the girl's head and tried to send her vibes of health and warmth hoping that would make the pain less. She lifted her eyes up to stare at the boy anger on her features. She hoped an instructor would walk in soon. She was way over her head here.

Alei laughed, that had been fun and the look on her face had been priceless. Satori wasn’t happy with him but it didn’t matter. If she started hassling him he’d just break something of her’s, maybe the freakish excuse for a tail.

“She deserved it,” he said, “The freak needed bringing down a peg or two.”

It was amusing that she’d tried to stop him when Latona called for help. His powers were already quite well developed, so a simple instinctive snap of energy was not going to stop him. A pilot probably could but not an untrained candidate.

Still smiling he slumped down onto his desk casually, when was their instructor going to get there? Latona was out of it and Satori didn’t interest him anymore.

He suspected that as soon as Latona did wake up she’d do one of two things, stay away from him, proving what a coward she was or, try and attack him proving her own stupidity. The winged freak seemed to be fairly reckless but not a coward, she was just a moron.

Alei yawned, “Shouldn’t a pilot be coming or something? Or at least another candidate, I’m bored.”

Satori's eyes turned into slits, anger boiling in her chest. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply trying to control it and not remember the time when she couldn't. She took deep breaths trying to meditate and keep control. She called out with her mind not knowing how to get a hold of a healer. Hopefully someone would show up sometime soon! Latona really needed to be checked on.

She gave a low frustrated growl at Alei. He was talking so nonchalantly like he hadn't just broken her wings, as if he hadn't caused her to pass out. She wasn't sure how these two had come to despise each other in such a short time but she didn't want to be in the middle of it though somehow she had ended up there.

"Just shut up, please." she said it just above a whisper almost like a threat. She couldn't stand it when guys hurt women. Incapacitating them sure. Restraining them so they wouldn't cause damage? Whatever. Outright breaking bones? That was off her list. Alei was lucky she could control herself.

Had the scorpion tailed freak just told him to shut up?

“Don’t tell me to shut up,” he said, not even bothering to lift his head look at her, “Or do you want me to break your extra appendage as well?”

By the way she was controlling her breathing it seemed she was trying to supress her temper, something Latona obviously couldn’t do. But she’d paid for it. He mentally shrugged; he’d leave Satori alone for now.

“Never mind, you two don’t interest me anymore,” he shifted his position slightly, “Wake me up when something happens.”

Satori just glared openly at Alei, he certainly wasn't worth any time at all either. Dicks weren't that interesting if that's all they were. In fact you could just sum them up in that one word. Oh if her mother heard her use this language.

She still held onto Latona. She didn't know what side she should take really. They both seemed like ticking time bombs to Satori. Though Alei had pushed her over the edge with the scorpion freak comment. It was just wrong, no one here was normal, no matter how human you looked. Everyone here had a freaky weird side. So maybe it actually was normal to be strange...that was a cycle of thought that wasn't even worth going down. Acceptance was the moral though she knew that!

She hoped that someone could help Latona with her wings, she knew they could heal almost anything, the breaks seemed pretty bad though. She tilted her head looking at her. Then looked at Alei what if they were all Pilots together? How could they trust each other? Maybe it's just a game of one upping the other.

[OOC Sorry Choco >.< I split my post into two since it's two POVs to get rid of one of the OOCs posts o.O]

Latona opened her eyes and the first thought to register in her mind is, ‘look the floor is white as well’. Then the next one was ‘for the love of god my wings hurt’. That bastard Alei, breaking her wings was uncalled for. Dislocation wasn’t as bad as broken bones!

She rolled over carefully onto her stomach then spotted a black scorpion like tail nearby. That was must be Satori. She looked up at her, and noticed that she looked nearly as angry as Latona felt. Had Alei been taunting her as well?

“You jerk,” she said as she pulled herself up into a sitting position, “You will pay for that.”

Not today though, attacking him when her wings were an obvious and painful target was just plain stupid, but someday soon she would make him pay.

Today was not a good day.

Not only had even more grey hairs appeared on his head somehow that morning when he looked in the mirror, he had to take some dumb ass new candidates because Roman was busy with something. He hated candidates, especially new ones.

Walking down the corridor in his canary yellow coat, Marshal looked every inch the pilot. His recent appointment to position of Seeker made him feel oddly powerful. The knowledge that he could enter any pilots mind without them being legally able to resist him was making him giddy.

Even before he got within sight of the room where the candidates were gathered he was I their minds, threads so thin and delicate most pilots would have trouble noticing them snaking past their feeble defences and preparing to manipulate them.

He stepped inside and smiled at them. It was funny, because they wouldn’t even know he was there. He projected an image into each of their minds, effectively making the space where he was appear unoccupied. Just in case their untrained minds picked up on this discrepancy he also implanted a notion in their subconscious’s that they should either not look where he was, or pay no mind to anything they saw there. It was a delicious, artful piece of manipulation, and he loved it.

Leaning against the desk at the front of the room he looked at them. So pathetic. One of them, Alei, showed some talent. His mind was blocked somewhat. Somewhat being like sandbags as compared to a Light Shield. It was a nice try for a beginner, but effectively pointless against a pilot. Latona needed to learn to fight back.

He removed the false image, letting them see him. “Good morning candidates. I, am Pilot Richards. You may address me as such, or as Sir. Take your seats.”

He smiled at them, a smile that was in no way warm, but rather seemed like a cat watching its dinner.

“Now, to start, who can explain the stages of candidate training?”

Alei, who was almost asleep, suddenly sensed something strange. Was Latona or Satori trying to read his mind again? He glanced towards them; they were frowning at him so it was possible they were. People not liking him was nothing new, they were just obstacles that got in his way.

     “Good morning candidates…”

Alei jumped and his head whipped round to the source of the voice. What the hell? A pilot was stood there and Alei hadn’t even heard him come in. It was like he had appeared from nowhere!...No that wasn’t possible…He probably manipulated their minds into seeing an empty space, an easy task for a pilot.

At least a pilot was here now, he had been getting bored. He brushed across their and mind and found…nothing…As he expected, pilots were too skilled for untrained candidates to read their mind, unless they wanted them to.

///////

Latona jerked when the pilot appeared. And doing so was not a good idea as it just aggravated her wings, which really hurt. Alei also seemed unnerved by their sudden appearance from nowhere so at least she wasn’t the only one.

“Good morning candidates. I, am Pilot Richards. You may address me as such, or as Sir. Take your seats.”

She got to her feet as best she could and sat down on the chair sideways so her wings didn’t hit the back of the seat. If he didn’t like it, then tough, he may be a pilot but she wasn’t afraid of him.

“Now to start, who can explain the stage of candidate training?”

Well she wasn’t going to answer. Even at school she just let the smart-asses reply. If he asked, she would try and answer, but she wasn’t going to otherwise. Alei might, he seemed the type to show off.

Satori felt something prickling at the edges of her mind but she couldn't place the feeling. She had been getting more and more feelings like that as time went on. She was glad to finally be able to get this thing out of control, it was just too much sometimes. She jumped and her eyes went wide as Marshal appeared. How neat! Though really scary at the same time. She couldn't wait to learn things like that. Being at this place had been her dream for a long time, seeing things like that just solidified it.

Satori stood up with Latona. She was still hoping that the Pilot would help her. It didn't look like he even really noticed though. Satori went back to her seat after seeing if Latona was alright. She seemed it. Satori looked at Pilot Richards she smiled, it wasn't Roman? Hmm. Satori turned her eyes to Latona as she heard her voice strong.

[center:1ydvw19y]He may be a Pilot but I'm not afraid of him.[/center:1ydvw19y]

Oh that was silly. Respect and fear sometimes lurked very closely together. Some people prefer that you fear them along with respect them. Most Pilots she imagined were probably exactly that way. She just shook her head, hopefully it won't come back to bite Latona in the ass.

She slid one of her notebooks out grabbing a pen. She felt like such a dork, a teacher's pet. This was her mind though. She needed to learn everything she could! It was obvious, if she didn't pay attention didn't learn then it would just end badly for her. She looked at Pilot Richards smiling. Then as he asked the question she felt very lost. She had never been good at school.

Marshal maintained a constant presence in each of the candidates’ minds, a thin thread that was ready to be strengthened to take control at any moment, just hovering on their motor functions. He seized the control bundle of Latona’s right arm, then forced her to slap herself on the cheek, as hard as she was able. He let go and looked at her quizzically, as if she couldn’t understand what she’d done that for.

He wouldn’t strike them, he’d make them punish themselves. Marshal wasn’t a huge fan of physical torture, but it was quicker than mental torture, which required often massive amounts of effort and time.

“No one?” he looked about the room, “No one at all? Very well, since you seem to have all neglected to read the information given to you, the candidate program is divided into five stages. You are in stage one, the six month grace period where you canon be failed and sent to TRIM for study. While we cannot fail you, as pilots we are legally permitted to do almost anything to you. Also, any misbehaving in this period will reflect upon your first evaluation, which will cull the first lot of you. I can tell you now that the chances of all three of you ever becoming pilots is small. In all likelihood you are in the same room as someone who will be experimented on until they lose their sanity and die, cold and alone. Strive for that not to be you.” He paused, giving them each a stern look, showing that he wasn’t kidding.

“We will begin today slowly, as it’s you’re first day, with some basic tests.” He held the number 1174 in the front of his mind, lowering his shields around it so all they had to do was reach into his mind.

“I am thinking of a number, the first person to tell me what it is avoids punishment.”

“What the hell?” Latona though when he own hand suddenly slapped her face.

Obviously that was the pilots work; he must have heard what she said about not being afraid of him. The fact he could make her punish herself didn’t faze her in the slightest, she already knew he could make himself appear invisible and if he wasn’t going to hit them physically with his own hands he was a coward, or a stuck up prick, maybe both.

She on the other hand believed if you were going to torture someone, you should do it yourself, with your own two fists. Psychic powers were cool but there was nothing like the feeling of bones breaking as you punched someone in the face. The thought of breaking bones however reminded her of her rather painful wings, damn Alei. She would make him pay for that.

When Marshal said he was thinking of a number and the first to answer avoided punishment, she didn’t even bother to try, he’d probably punish them either way and punishing Satori for not getting the answer quick enough would be rather cruel, she hadn’t done anything wrong.

//////

Alei had to suppress a laugh when Latona suddenly hit herself. He hadn’t failed to notice her loud thought about not fearing the pilot and clearly Marshal hadn’t missed it either.

Then he asked them to read his mind and tell them what number he was thinking of. Well he liked the chance to show off his abilities and he was not going to get punished because Latona was violent bitch with a short temper.

He brushed across the pilot’s mind and found the number.

     “1174,” he stated.

Satori looked over at Latona trying to hold back the small laugh trying to escape. The Pilot must have heard her thought. She should have known better than to provoke a Pilot, even mentally it was just asking for trouble. After all they could see and hear everything, at any time almost. Especially candidate's minds.

Satori was about to reach out with her mind, her eyes moved back to the Pilot as Alei spoke. She cringed a little. She was too slow. She ground her teeth and reach out anyway, she could just visualize a hand running over the Pilot's forehead as she searched. There it was, the number glared in her mind like black text on white paper. That was encouraging at least. Even if she didn't get it first she could still see it.

"That's what it looks like." She probably would still get some sort of punishment for not seeing it first still, but at least she tried.

This class was turning out to be pathetic, in both number and aptitude. Only Alei was showing any talent at all. There were many schools of thought on what made a good psychic, but in Marshal’s mind speed was very important.

Letting the number fade away he resealed his mind and smiled. “Well done Alei, well done. You too Satori, but a little more speed next time please.” She hadn’t done all that badly. He’d felt her tendril of thought brush his mind, and while it was a little cruder than Alei’s, it still did the job.

He rounded on Latona. “Latona, you failed this test, meaning that in this room you are the least capable. If the testing was now, you would be sent to TRIM, and the others would not. Think about that while you strip.” So without missing a beat, they come to the second test, obedience, and as an added bonus it should hurt her quite a lot undressing with her wings all beaten up, so that could be her punishment.

Folding his arms, Marshal waited, an impatient stare fixed on Latona.

[OOC Short o.O]

What was the big deal about reading a stupid number from the pilot’s mind? It wasn’t like this was an actual test; they had only just got here. Of course if it had been a proper test she would have made an effort, she didn’t want to go to TRIM. The scientists there would probably love to get their hands on her. She wasn’t human after all and even she didn’t know what she was.

Then her ears pricked up at the pilot’s next comment. Had he just said what she thought he had?

     “Strip? You’re kidding right?”

Pervert! There was no way she was undressing for his amusement. It was unfair of him to expect her to just for not answering one question and her wings hurt, undressing would aggravate them.

Satori nodded to him at his criticism. She had a feeling as soon as this class was over she would be in her room studying over the books she'd been given and researching things. She really needed to catch up to the head of the class. She glanced over at Alei then her feeling was confirmed as soon as Marshal spoke to Latona.

Satori had a feeling she might skip sleep for a week studying if this was a normal occurrence.

Strip...that was just too much. She shook her head and looked down at the table in front of her. Latona was far too much of a rebel. There really was no point to that here i nthe first place. Either you pass or become an experiment and Satori would much ratther pass than let a bunch of weird scientists play with her scorpion tail, she guess Latona felt the same about her wings.

She kept her eyes glued to the table in front of her and her notebook. She really didn't want to see what Marshal would do if she didn't do what he wanted.

...Then she wondered is this was part of the curriculum as a preferred form of punishment.
