Free Falling [OPEN]

Glistened in the sun from above, an ebony suit eniticing an ebony body.  That helmet which was worn upon her head luminated the light in bright flashes, a becon that anyone could have followed if they had wished to transverse this far into the desolate plains of Mars.  This was the figure's job, to travel the uncharted territory and ensure that it was in fact safe for inhabitants.  So far she had seen no sign of intelligent life; she did not mind walking alone, it allowed her to take in thoughts.  Dust whirled around her figure as she ceased her movement and looked out into the distance...

The Karidja Rift

Beneath that tinted face plate, this behemoth would smile.  Muscles quivered beneath the suit, sending ripples down the enitirty of her being.  At one point this being had been an all star athlete, but the government had not put so much money into this project to have it running track for the rest of its life.  She did, though, enjoy the feeling of air flowing freely over her sleek figure.  A knee pressed against the rugged sands of the Martian surface, fingertips sinking into the fine sand as well.  Darth Vader breaths left the hollow hood upon her head, lizard-esque eyes flicking from her feet to the canyon.

Her butt shot up into the air...
Hamstrings tensed...
Dirt sprayed...

Zindzhi was off, arms moving like the pistons of a finely tuned automobile.  Each step sent a plume of red dirt into the air.  Strides lengthened as she hauled her body toward the gaping width of the Karidja Rift, quadriceps aching with the action it took to propell her forth.  She knew that had she been on Earth she could never make the jump, but this was in fact Mars.  Here the surface gravity is only thirty-eigh precent of that of Earth, and with this suit...  Well, she may just make it.  Now she reached the ridge of the rift, her knees bending as she knelt down.  A deep breath delved into the depths of her lungs, and she would expand her muscles.  Knees would erupt forward, and she would launch herself into the air.

Red dirt blew into the air as she glided gracefully through the air...

Ten feet...
Twenty feet...
Thirty...
Fourty...
Fifty...
Shit...

Only fifty feet...  Fifty feet out of the six-hundred-fifty-six-thousand-one-hundred-and-sixty-seven feet she had hoped to cross.  There she would free fall, twenty-two-thousnad-nine-hundred-and-sixty-five feet, the river churning below her.

Oh shit, Zindzhi thought as she would plummet through the air.  At least I've got my suit on, a smile spread across her lips as she continued on her way to the depths of the river.
