Graham Fox-Starling, Pilot Doctor
« on: September 18, 2014, 01:30:45 pm »
I took some liberties with the Pilots' medical staff here, so I'm willing to change it if it makes no sense.

Occupation Pilot Doctor, the head of the Practical Division. He works half in managing his department, and relations with the general medical staff in the citadel, and half in the practical side of his profession, performing check-ups, treating injury and illness, diagnosing, and treating less physical injury as well. He's one of the few people authorised to hear everything that a Pilot might need to talk about, so he's one of their few psychiatrists, and he's not ignorant of psychology.
Residence Higher level of Haviah, near the Citadel and the Advanced Training Complex

Physical Description Broad shouldered for an average man, but appearing weak next to most Pilots, Graham seems to eminate an aura of amiable trustworthiness. His expressions tend to have neutral overtones, especially when he's at work. He has short brown hair, is clean shaven, and shows his age, looking neither younger nor older than he actually is. He's yet to show any signs of grey hair or baldness, but wrinkles have inevitably crept onto his face, especially around his mouth and eyes. Luckily, they're mostly smile and laughter lines. His features are on the larger side, but are rather average looking. His lips are naturally a kind of muted dark pink, his skin is tanned, and he has grey eyes. He's generally well built, and although he's developed a little pudge around the abdomen over the years, he's still generally quite trim. He likes to wear blue, grey, beige, brown and muted green, not all at the same time, and tends to wear shirts and tailored trousers with plain shoes and a smart jacket or coat when he's at work, although he does have an official uniform that he wears for scheduled practical treatments. At home he favours imitation knitwear and soft, loose trousers, of the same colours, with his favourite canary yellow slippers. He can be tempted into shinier, closer fitting clothing with knee high boots when he goes out.

Personality Graham is perceptive, friendly, and secure. He's still a bit hung up on his wife, and despairs of his daughters sometimes, but his general attitude is quite mellow. When he gets annoyed, and mostly he gets annoyed at ineptitude and inefficiency, he is very intense and focused on those who've earned his wrath, but when he feels the issue is solved he'll calm right down again, at least on the outside. He genuinely wants to help his patients, although he would prefer to be more in the loop in regards to their lives. He enjoys reading, listening to music, and collecting Khusha cards. His favourite narcotic is Ruby Finssa, publicised as being 'a gentle relaxant, stimulating creativity and boosting even the lowest mood', although his main reason for liking it is that, as all of the Finssa line, it can be administered through the skin via a wristband. Obviously, he doesn't work under the influence of drugs, but what free time he has is generally spent even more mellow than he is naturally. He doesn't like the way it dulls his reflexes and his paranoia, part of him thinking that if he'd been more alert to the fact that his wife was late home he might've saved her, but he has been informed by the higher-ups that he has to set a 'healthy' example to his patients, and it does help him to relax. Otherwise, he's a bit of a genius, and he loves to devour the information that his high access level allows him, covering all areas of physical and mental health. He's reached a high enough point in his career to allow him to stop practical work, but instead he delegates some of his management duties and continues to treat patients, as while he doesn't hate paperwork, he prefers to actively help people.

Magic/Abilities Luck runs in Graham's family, and in him it shows as an increased rate of healing for him and his patients, the best possible rate, in fact. People he talks to tend to feel better no matter what has been said, or worse, depending on his attitude towards them. While he is entirely without psionic empathy, he is perceptive and tends to guess and deduce correctly. Unlike his daughter, Kareya, his mind is open to psionics, but sometimes they feel an inexplicable desire to look elsewhere.
He is a skilled doctor, both physical and mental, although surgery and bio-mechanics aren't his strengths. He is still far more than adept at both, as the requirements for his job are stringent, but he's better at diagnosis and treatment.
He's quite good at making people listen to him.

Relationships He has a small circle of friends within Haviah's upper caste, is on friendly terms with most of his colleagues, and has a good relationship with both of his daughters, or at least, he did before 'Reya ran off. He and 'Reya were always closer, but not by much, as his daughters rarely did anything separately that they didn't have to do. Also, his ex-fiance, Reyan, is the head of the Research Division.

History Graham was born into one of the higher castes, and was given permission to learn medicine when it became blatantly obvious that he was extremely intelligent, at the age of 13. He had no siblings, and his parents weren't really interested in him, so he was always reliant on a close group of friends, as otherwise he'd have been a reclusive workaholic, which would've been bad as he loves to be around people. He met Fiona when he was 23, having already almost been married once to a fellow doctor named Reyan, but they split up when their career advancement required them to live in different places. He married Fiona shortly after a major promotion, at the age of 25. Their twin daughters were born two years later, and he was torn between his family and his work for a while, as his wife certainly wasn't going to compromise. When Fiona was killed, he was distraught, but it gave him more grounds to negotiate for more time with his children. He's never really gotten over her death, especially as the Artist was never found, but he finds solace in helping people. He didn't give Kareya permission to leave, but he did buy her everything she needed - he knew what she was up to, and didn't want her to be arrested. He's suspicious of Berry as well, but he doesn't really want to confront her about it. He's more mildly exasperated than anything else.

Physical Description Fiona was a petite woman, with delicate features, tanned skin and natural curly red hair that she wore loose and had cut to a little below chin length.  She wore figure flattering, but concealing clothing, except from when she was working out, or trying to get into character. She particularly loved wearing red, and frequently wore bright red lipstick with crimson and dark pink eyeshadow. She had very dark blue-green eyes, and was always smiling.

Personality Cheerful, optimistic and friendly, although some of this was predominantly for the camera. She loved being the centre of attention, loved many things in fact, and always behaved as though she was still being filmed for something, with her real self being just another character. Needless to say, she also really enjoyed acting. She liked to party, take drugs, but not to the point where her grip on her character would slip, and cultivate her image through conversation and stunts. She loved her husband and children, and was looking forward to her life.

Magic/Abilities Absolutely no magic or psionics, although she was an extremely talented actor and conversationalist.

Relationships Husband, Graham Fox-Starling. Twin daughters, Berica and Kareya Fox-Starling. Manager, Ireh Meno'tika. Colleagues and friends, Vio Carlico (the Bright), Mieni Sievedibi (Darling Storm), Hsherkiogherdu Aravardikh Ksholghui (Incandescent), Byeki Dosa (Love), and Ti'riki Fredaba Dolo'ni (the Dancer).

History Fiona came from a wealthy family; her father owned a line of popular nightclubs and her mother worked for the government, appearing in propaganda. She had an elder brother who was psionic, but he failed the Pilot training program. She appeared in propaganda with her mother once or twice as a toddler, which lead to her acting career starting very young, as she was often cast in child roles once she was spotted. As she grew, so did her fame, and by the time she was 17 she was a phenomenon. At this point, she met Graham at a club, and they married when she was 19. They moved in together, and had twins two years later. Her career continued to thrive until her death. She was on her way back home from a party when she was targeted by a serial killer known as the Artist.
