Name Bairi Kenos
Age 26
Gender Female
Species Human
Ethnicity Teinari
[If applicable. Is the character Aedolian, Edani, Teinari, etc?]
Height 5"11
Occupation Adventurer
Residence Follows a nomadic lifestyle, but probably technically lives with her mother in the east of Teinar. (I chose to post her here because she doesn't really consider herself to be Teinari - she chose to leave instead of working to help the community, therefore she no longer belongs. She also doesn't spend much time there.)

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description Bairi is fairly tall and well built for a woman, with relatively broad shoulders and well-developed musculature. Her left arm is stronger than her right arm, although her right arm is dominant, from the need to carry heavy equipment at the same time as manipulating technology with some precision.  Her iris's are gold and she has short, roughly clipped, red hair. Her skin is naturally pale, although she has a light golden tan from outdoor exploration. She has quite large feet, and a proportionately short and stocky torso, with slightly longer than average arms and legs. Her nails are rough and chipped, and her hands and feet are moderately callused. She has bold, arched eyebrows a little darker than her hair, her nose is straight and moderately sized, and her lips are thin, fairly defined, and naturally somewhat rose pink. Her face is quite narrow, her jaw quite high, and her cheekbones broad and defined, on the higher side but not uncommonly so. Bairi is neither beautiful nor ugly in the typical sense; her features are clear and unobjectionable. Her breasts are on the small side, but her broad hips and slim waist prevent her from being entirely without curves. Typically she wears tough, light tops and trousers in shades of brown and grey. She also has a warm, hide and synthetic material coat, and body armour made from the exo-skeleton of a massive insect-like creature in the subterrain. She wears hide gloves, and waterproof boots that come up to just below her knees, made out of the skin of some kind of sea creature that she'd found fairly freshly dead, mysteriously, far from water. She suspects it used to be someone's pet, then was tired of. Aside from her boots and armour, everything she has is either 'second'hand (second might not be quite the right word), or cobbled together from spare parts by Fjat.

Personality Like many Teinari, Bairi is active and practical, in her own mind at least. She's much more academic in her interests than most, and has been ridiculed for having 'fanciful' ideas and wasting her time before. Whilst acknowledging that it's more practical in a way to focus on survival, family, and an everyday job, she's always wanted to do more than that, to find something out, develop something, or do something that's beyond the norm. When she was younger she was afraid of insect-like creatures and was disconcerted by the open sky, but she's had to get over these reservations in order to have her desired lifestyle. While she can't really afford any crippling fears, she is frequently afraid in particularly dangerous situations, especially if they are unfamiliar. She's quite well educated, if a little behind in her technological education, from what education she could find in Teinar, from outsiders, old storage, and of course her official education. She knows a little about Earth as it used to be from her finds throughout the years, but there isn't much left. Obviously, Bairi is very adventurous, confident in her abilities, curious, and strong-minded, but although she was quite sociable as a child, she's now more introverted, feeling happier when alone. Despite this, she does get lonely, causing her to visit her family in Teinar when she goes to barter for supplies, and occasionally consider getting a pet.  She's naturally cheerful and has an optimistic streak; she's rarely fazed and has little idea of decorum. She doesn't normally have to think of others much, so although she can be quite perceptive in other ways, she's generally blind to the feelings of everyone except her family. She will consider other's feelings if they're called to her attention, but generally her tendency to do as she likes isn't affected by the proximity of other people. She knows she's incredibly lucky to have the abilities she does, so she feels she should use them. She prefers to run and walk, but through necessity she has a beast of a motorbike for carrying things, although she's frequently tempted to try to find a biological alternative. The motorbike runs on bacterial batteries which are easy enough to maintain, especially given her psionic gifts.

Magic/Abilities  Bairi's magic allows her to manipulate her body, making herself resistant to the pollutants in Earth's atmosphere and water, most bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi, and many venoms and poisons. She can also use her ability to heal faster, stop infections, fully monitor her body, and she thinks she might be able to delay her aging significantly, although she's far too young to tell. She never really 'runs out' of magic, so long as she refrains from trying to influence something outside of her body. She was born with a little psionic ability, but an attempt to augment it with her magic warped it. Her psionic abilities currently allow her to detect life signs, and even places where living things have been, as they leave psychic imprints. She can also detect relationships, and can relieve pain and donate energy. She can nudge the minds, or equivalents of minds, of living things to do certain things, but she's far from subtle and any psychic could sense her, although it might take them a bit to figure out how to block her, as her ability is unorthodox in nature. The nudges are just that, nudges, and don't force the issue. The downside of this is that being around large groups of people, or places where large groups of people have been, is horribly confusing and can even be painful.
Typically she uses a staff with a core of steel, covered with hammered down layers of the armour of a lizard-like creature found in the wastelands, with a grip made from its hide and retractable steel blades. She owns a small electricity gun, but rarely gets enough sunlight to charge it, and it has limited uses even when fully charged. She can generally hit the target, and with her fire-arm, more precision isn't really required.
Bairi's knowledge is mostly historical, biological and geographical, and her memory and the speed at which she learns are superb. Her ability to practically employ her knowledge is also quite good.

Relationships
Her mother, Kara Kenos, is a practical woman with brown hair, brown skin, and on purple and one golden eye, although she can't see out of the golden one. She's had 10 children, 6 by outsiders, so she has a house and a treasury of assorted items from the government. She loves all of her children equally, if not especially passionately. She disciplines and assists her children long after they've left home, and at the age of 63 she seems as strong as ever. She has little care for complexities, and likes to live simply and efficiently. She is employed as a farmer, and a midwife when required, and is active in her Union and her local community. Bairi and she don't understand each other in many ways, but they have an affectionate relationship, and share an approach to issues and problems. Kara is supportive, but as Bairi doesn't live in Teinar, she can't do much for her.
Of Bairi's nine half-siblings, she's fond of eight, friends with four, and close to two. She's never really met one of the children, as she was born after he left and he was rarely in the house when she visited. The other eight have places in her heart as family, but only the ones close to her in age (and her doting elder brother, Jorn) are really friends with her. She's closest to Jorn and Fjat, who are respectively 36 and 25. Jorn is good-natured, friendly, and much-loved for his sense of humour and generally pleasant attitude. He dotes on his younger siblings, especially her, as they share a lively interest in many things, although his is less driving. He's quite a good builder, and enjoys music. Fjat is almost like her twin, although his interest is solely in things mechanical, with perhaps a little set aside for technology. They aren't very similar, but they spent so much time together growing up that they know each other inside out. They still confide in each other, and she spends more time with him when she visits than any other. Jorn used to take Fjat and she out into the subterrain (though never far) and sometimes they do that together when she visits, mostly to see if there's anything with usable parts running around.
Outside of family, she's on decent terms with several of the people she commonly barters with, a couple of scholars, her old teachers, and a couple of girls she used to be friends with (one of whom married Fjat), but she doesn't really have friends; she just never did enough to maintain friendships she did make, and her ambitions made her a bit weird.

History
Bairi was born in Teinar, with an outsider father and a Teinari mother, and took quickly to any knowledge offered to her. She also loved to explore the streets with other children, and longed to see the what was beyond the city. Rikki, her eldest brother, taught her to use a staff at 13, and by the time she was 16 she was set on leaving the city to explore the earth, and had gathered most of what she needed to leave. Jorn started taking Fjat and Bairi into the subterrain when she was 14, and she quickly developed respectable fighting skills. She was six when she started to use her magic in earnest, and this was when she tried to augment her incredibly minor psionic ability. The first time she left she was back withing three months, but at eighteen she left again, and since then she's stayed out, collecting things of value to barter with when she returns to Teinar for company and supplies. She's mapped out ecosystems and learnt a lot about the existing wildlife, but, sadly, has found very few remnants of old human civilisations. She has however, discovered many things about the current state of the earth. She went to the meeting place once when she was 20, but didn't linger long, as she found it disconcerting.
