A Train Through A Tunnel
« on: February 28, 2011, 02:58:58 pm »
The soft rattle of the mid-level monorail always reminded Mherlise of her youth, racing from shoot to shoot, trying desperately to get her name out. She didn't have to do that any more, thankfully, not that her life was really any less busy now. There were always meetings, and shoots still, but they happened on her schedule and more often than not they came to her. Sometimes, though, it was nice to get out and about and be seen mingling with her public.

Not too much mingling, though. Her earphones not actually playing music, her leaned-back arms-crossed eyes-closed pose, and especially the large man in the suit sat beside her, all were intended to keep anyone too unpleasant at a distance. She'd be polite to her fans, of course – she didn't want any bad publicity, after all – but she did have to be careful. This profession had a tendency to attract some oddballs.

That need for security, however, didn't stretch as far as going incognito. With her long black hair, her corset and pencil skirt and knee-length fur coat, and her trademark needle-thin heels, she was as recognisable as ever. Half-asleep in her seat, she tapped her cigarette holder against her red lips and breathed out gently. Ah, if only she could smoke on this thing it'd almost be a perfectly relaxing start to the day. It'd been a while since she'd had one of those.

Yasmine liked the train. It let her people watch, a hobby she had always enjoyed. She was absorbed in her music that day, her newest script on a bookreader, trying to memorize it. It was actually several moments before her head snapped up and she stared at the woman.

There was no way. Yasmine stared in open mouthed shock at the woman. Ripping her ear buds out, Yasmine gave a breathy squeal, "It's you! Oh my gods! It's the Mherlise Çeversé! I...I am such a fan!"

The woman's movies were amazing. And while Yasmine didn't really find them all that sexy, she didn't find any porn sexy, she still appreciated them for the art they were. The woman knew her craft.

“Hm?” Hearing her name, Mherlise opened an eye, then the other as she sat forward. She'd known there would be big enough fans that her defences wouldn't keep away, but thankfully this didn't yet seem to be one of the creepy ones. Raising a hand slightly to signal her bodyguard to stay put, she took her earphones out and smiled lightly at the awestruck girl. “I hear that all the time, darling.”

Then an interesting thought hit her, one that didn't come to her that often, and she tilted her head ever so slightly. There was definitely something about the girl's face, something familiar, and she couldn't quite put her finger on it. A few moments of thought, and she decided it was probably worth asking. “I'm sorry, this may seem odd. Have I seen you somewhere?”

"I'm sorry. I'm sure you do!" Oh no! She was babbling like a moron but here she was! In the flesh! Mherlise was her idol! Her movies were utterly amazing and the talent the woman had was just inspiring. "I just, wow! This is so amazing!"

Her cheeks flushed a little and Yasmine ducked her head, thrilled and shy that Mherlise might have seen one of her movies, "Um, I do some movies. I was in Back Door Pirates and Video Vixens and um, I was the staring role in that retro series of 'documentaries' that came out last year."

Those were the ones Mherlise might have seen, though like most porn actors, Yasmine was in dozens of movies.

As the girl reeled off titles, Mherlise wagged her cigarette holder distractedly in the air. She tried to watch a few new releases a week to keep up with trends, with the unfortunate side effect of blurring most of them together into a series of moaning and writhing and various fluids. Only a handful stood out enough for her to recall, and luckily for the girl there was a name there she recognised.

Video Vixens? Ah, yes! I remember that one – obviously low budget, but more than made up for by some fresh ideas and good performances all around. Talent worth keeping an eye on, there,” she replied, appraising the girl with a critical gaze. Perhaps, when she got the chance, she'd look up the rest of them.

She had heard of her? Seen her movie? Yasmine felt light headed with excitement. "It was a really amazing shoot. I don't normally do hardcore like that, but the idea and the direction was just so good. And Cherry was an amazing co-star. But wow. I can't believe you have seen my stuff. I feel so honored! I mean, you do the most amazing movies and I am gushing I can't help it I'm so nervous."

Mherlise chuckled at the girl's awkward blathering, quite used to this sort of thing. It was always nice to run into this type of fan rather than the staring, drooling kind, and she found it more charming than anything.

“Of course I watch the small stuff, how else will I find the true gems?” she replied, leaning forward with a smile to try to put the girl at ease. She was well aware that she could be intimidating, especially to young girls in the business, and there were times when that was useful. Other times, well, they needed a gentler touch. “You know, I started out just like you. If you're enthusiastic and hard-working, which it certainly sounds like you are, you'll go as far as you want to. It's the same as anything else, really.”

"It's hard to believe that." Yasmine gave a small, slightly high pitched laugh, "You are just so great, the idea you were once normal is just too weird. It's just so cool you've seen my work. Though, if you want to see something really neat, She wore yellow ribbons was really amazing. It's got some really cool shots in it. I wasn't the lead, but it was really an awesome shoot."

Gah! What was she doing? Mherlise probably already knew that. Shit up shut up shut up!

“You were in that, too?” Mherlise cocked an interested eyebrow. From the sound of it, the girl was either very lucky or very good at judging what she should appear in, or both. Young actresses didn't often have the luxury of picking and choosing, after all. “Oh, the scenes in the bath house, yes. I thought it had quite a different feel from most modern films, sort of... Tender. It reminded me a lot of Farida Volkman's early work.”

Her gaze flicked momentarily over to the display on the roof of the vehicle, distracted by the tannoy announcing the next stop. Hers was after this, so that gave her a little longer with the fan... Or the fan a little longer with her. Truthfully, she was enjoying this. It was nice to know that at least some of her audience had genuine taste. Looking back at the girl with a wry smile, she remarked, “So, have you been in any other overlooked masterpieces, miss...?”

"I love his work. He really creates a different feel. He makes it so romantic, while still being sexy and it's not all...fluff, you know? The way the scenes are set are beautiful. It's not just sex, you know? But it's still so hot."

Yasmine flushed a little and shook her head, "No, nothing really amazing. I auditioned to get into Heinrick's new movie though. I read the script and it's brilliant. Do you follow is work? It's a little arty, and honestly, I can't say I like all of it, but this one is really...well, it's very dark and rough and beautiful. I really hope I get the role-oh gods! I'm babbling again! I'm so sorry! You can tell me to shut up anytime!"

Nodding along with the girl, Mherlise found herself wondering if she'd actually studied this stuff. It wasn't every fan that could get so succinctly to the heart of what made a piece work. She supposed all that passion was for the best, really. Without drive, acting was a thankless and frankly pointless pursuit; nobody succeeded who didn't care where they ended up.

“Well, I wish you the best of luck. That sort of role can make a career, if you use it right. And honestly, I don't mind at all. It's nice to talk with someone who knows the subject. Oh darling, it's all businessmen and marketing these days, it's a wonder the inspiration even makes it through that dreck.” Sighing irritably, she sucked on her cigarette holder for a second as if it was lit before flashing the girl a covert grin. “Don't tell anyone I said that.”

"Well, I mean, I got into it because I liked it. Not the sex part, the...creating part. I mean, there is some really amazing work out there, when you look beyond another Anal Adventure 12. Sure, those can sell, but, I mean, there is still art out there." Yasmine flushed a little, shaking her head, "Oh, don't worry. I wont tell a soul."

She gave a small laugh, "Your secret is safe with me. And, well, I guess that's why I'm such a fan of your movies. They are so much more than simple wank fodder, while still being utterly sexy."

At the girl's offhand comment, Mherlise frowned. “Well, why not the sex? It's still the centrepiece.”

“Although I do agree with your general opinion. When it's just people humping away in a brightly-lit room, it's all so dull. You have to really reach in, find that switch that makes something erotic, and press it. Hard, and repeatedly.” She laughed quietly, with an almost mischievous grin. “I give the audience what they really want, and that's why I have fans. I'm glad someone else gets it.”

"Oh, yes. I agree. That's just not why I got into the movies. I have...um...differe nt preferences." Yasmine gave a small laugh, shrugging. Few people understood her preferences and she was alright with that. And it wasn't like she didn't like sex, she loved it.

"I don't think sex just needs to be, well, humping in a brightly-lit room. There are layers to it, that so many people gloss over in their movies, you know? That it's just about a blow job or penetration. And, well, personally, I find that so boring. I want a little more in my porn."

Making a vague noise, she nodded. It wouldn't do to ask what those preferences were; that was a little personal to ask a stranger, especially a stranger who was a fan. And if it was something weird, well, that would sour the whole conversation. It was so enjoyable otherwise.

“Yes!” agreed Mherlise, perhaps a little too vehemently. She was leaning far enough forward now that she very nearly overbalanced, and pulled herself back with a small cough. “I mean, it's the subtleties. It takes an outside view to see what's really important and what's just so much damp flesh. People tend to create what they enjoy, which is all well and good but if everything turns you on you won't be putting out any quality.”

"Exactly! No one seems to get that. They think it's just sex and I'm always trying to say nothing is just sex! Sex is so much more than come shots and penetration and it's so amazing getting to work with a team that understands that. I guess that's why I like the soft core films a little more. They tend to be more open to pushing boundaries, do a little more in the movies than 20 minutes of anal."

Yasmine never wanted this train ride to end! But she only had one more stop left and her attempts to stop the train with her mind didn't seem to be working very well. She couldn't believe it. Mherlise Çeversé felt the same way about porn that she did! She had always suspected, watching her movies, but to here it confirmed was a dream!

Mherlise nodded again. “Mm, when the audience expects less you can get away with a lot more. Of course, when hardcore does it right, it does it right. It would just be nice if the sales figures matched.” She chuckled. “I suppose you can't have everything.”

The tinny voice of the announcer rattled through the train once more, and she stood with a sigh, her bodyguard close behind. “Speaking of which, I'm afraid I must leave you in a moment. Things to do, you know how it is.”

"So true. I don't know if it's because I haven't made much of a name for myself yet, but I find its so much harder to find the really good stuff." Yasmine glanced up at the scrolling marquee announcing the the next stop.

"No, I totally understand. It's my stop, and well," She held up the script she had been holding. Then froze, "Oh! Please! Will you sign this? Before you leave. It would be an honor."

“Of course I will, dear,” Mherlise smiled, taking the script and fishing a pen out of the recesses of her coat to adorn the cover of the booklet with her elaborate, looping signature. Out of curiosity more than anything else, she flipped a few pages and raised an eyebrow before handing it back.

Oh, it wasn't bad, but from their chat she had the sneaking suspicion the girl was better than this.

“In fact,” she added, “I can do a little something extra.” She beckoned at her bodyguard and he jumped to attention, searching his pockets for a small piece of navy-blue cardboard with a few lines of white writing. With a flourish, Mherlise took it and offered it to the girl. “Why don't you join my private mailing list? I have a new project in the works and we'll be sending out a casting call by the end of the month. I would so love to see what you can do.”

The script wasn't great, but beggars can't be choosers and Yasmine didn't have the name power to really do a lot better. Sometimes she got lucky and got to be in something amazing, but most of it was "Leather Fetish 12".

When Mherlise handed her the card, Yasmine's mouth dropped open and she stared at it. It took a moment for her brain to kick in and she took the card, her hand trembling with excitement, "O-ohmygod! Seriously? I would love too! I...just...Wow! Thank you! So, so much! I wont let you down!"
