"The water is warmer than usual today," thought the mer maiden.
Órfhlaith swam along the dark under sea currents until she came to the submerged river.
Her scales shimmered like newly sunken treasure as she let herself be pulled into the rush of water. Her skin was pearly white and she had long flowing golden hair that somehow never got tangled around her even though it was constantly moving.
Órfhlaith thought about how every day seemed to be the same and wondered if she would ever meet being who were different from her kind.
She had herd strange stories from her great grandparents about people that could breath when they weren't in the water. She found it so hard to believe that a place where there was no water really exsisted.
Her black eyes caught site of something glimmering in the distance. She used her powerful tail and fins to propel herself out of the under water river and reached out to inspect the pretty object. She loved finding sunken treasure, even if she usually had no idea what the strange things were.
"Ah, what a find!" She exclaimed as she held up a locket on a gold chain.
The locket was made of ruby and shaped like a heart.
