Physical Description

Urban fox mixed with urban woman, this artificially anthropomorphized creature is petite and slinky; the majority of her sleek fur is an unnatural yet flattering pastel pink, with snow-white across her chest and jet black along her arms and legs. A stylish tuft of spiky white hair hangs down over her right eye, eyes which are a piercing, almost luminescent green. Her luxurious tail is oversized yet flows gracefully and weightlessly behind her.

Jem rarely goes out anywhere without a small, purple backpack containing various items essential for her research, such as a camera, camcorder, notebook, mobile phone, and protein drinks (for when she’s stranded in uncivilized areas). All these gadgets are as gaudy and girly as she is, but they get the job done.
Jem’s fur conveniently acts as her clothing, but she does own a few accessories that she likes to adorn herself with occasionally; a pink feather boa, black & pink striped fingerless gloves, and a purple leatherette jacket.

Personality:
Jem is an oddly innocent and studious creature, with an open mind and a quirky, eccentric attitude. Adventurous and optimistic, she has a good soul, but a rebellious spirit – often preferring to see corruption in the righteous and beauty in those who are villainous and savage. This is particularly true of the creatures she is meant to be studying and reporting to Thanatos Inc. The more she cares for them, the less she reports.
It is not difficult to imagine that Jem has a habit of getting herself in to trouble. Thankfully, her natural cunning and amiable spirit can usually get her out of it. She is an unusual combination – appearing glamorous, mysterious and street-smart, yet inside she is as fragile and insecure as most other city-dwellers.

Weaknesses: Most of Jem’s primitive vulpine behavior was removed from her genes during her creation – as a result she has no ability to fight with tooth and claw, nor has she yet learnt any self-defense or fighting skills from others, so the only edge she has is her agility, as detailed below.

Strengths: Jem may have lost her primitive side, but her vulpine reflexes and agility is still very much intact. She can run, jump, climb and balance with a natural skill far above that of a human. This allows her to navigate the various levels and built-up areas of Haviah with ease. It also goes without saying that her senses of smell, hearing and sight are all very finely tuned.

Likes: Creatures and mutants, gadgetry, anything pink or brightly coloured.

Dislikes: Being confined or restricted, would-be ‘heroes’, small-minded people.

Magic/Abilities: None.

Relationships: None yet, and unlikely to change – she is the only creature of her kind as far as she knows.

History: Jem’s life began as the pet project, so to speak, of a bored Thanatos scientist, whose idea of fun was to create creatures with human posture and intelligence, just to see what would happen. Jem, with her idealized features and unnatural pink fur, essentially started out as a joke. Not an easy thing to learn, when you wake up one morning, alone, in a blank glass cell. But Jem, created from one of nature’s most adaptable creatures, coped with her situation remarkably well. In fact, she had turned out far more perfectly than the scientist had expected. Fully-formed and agile, intelligent and questioning, Jem would speak constantly to anyone who came near her cell, pleading to be let out. The scientists, meanwhile, were at first unsure of what to do with her. She was of little value to them, yet as a successful experiment in her own right, it seemed like a waste to just have her put down. So they considered her abilities and how they could be of use to the corporation, and they came to a decision.
A few days later Jem was finally granted her wish and released from her cell. For the next year or so the fox remained within Thanatos headquarters, tutored by lower-ranking scientists and psychologists of the outside world and the way things worked. Jem absorbed all of their information attentively, eager to speed along the day of her freedom. When that day came, the scientists finally revealed their intentions, and what Jem was to do for them in return for their hospitality.
Jem was briefed with the task of researching and reporting information on the beasts and mutants said to wander the wastelands and undercities of Aedolis, and she would be granted an adequate sum of credit for each report made to headquarters. Jem accepted all this wordlessly, and on that note, she was handed a bag of flashy, brightly-coloured gadgets and items to help in her research (all shamelessly chosen by the fox herself), and had a microchip implanted into her right paw, credited with enough funds to get her started, but containing no information that could trace her origins back to Thanatos Inc.
And so the unassuming creature was set loose, free to travel where she pleased, but forever in debt to her scheming creators…
