New Blood (Jin)

Cis sat in her office going over the results of her last experiment. She clicked her tongue and started typing away on her keyboard. The mage she had given her latest serum to had become much more aggressive than before he had arrived at TRIM. That certainly wouldn't do. She compared notes on her computer to ones she had written down and to ones on her hand held computer. There had to be some sort of variation. Cis knew that she had done it right in her notes, though she couldn't find anything that was wrong.

She leaned back in her chair, thinking. Perhaps the aggressive behavior was an unintended side effect or maybe a way that the subject's body was fighting back. She would need samples for comparison. Cis rubbed her temples. Something had gone wrong with this and it was going to be a pain to find out what.

After collecting some DNA and protein samples, along with brain readings, Cis set herself to the task of finding out what was wrong, though it wasn't long before she was interrupted. With a sigh, she put her work on hold as she got up to answer the knock that had rapped on her door.

Cis had neglected to remove her lab coat after she had gotten back from collecting her samples and it was still all buttoned up. Her hair was pulled back and kept in a single braid, though it wasn't that long. Crisp, dark slacks ended at the top of equally dark shoes. She thought she looked very professional. She opened the door. "Yes?"

The slight of a clerk greeted her. "Sorry to bother you Dr. Silen." He pushed his glasses farther up his nose. "I was sent to inform you that you have been assigned an intern to teach." He handed her the clipboard he was carrying. "This is all the relevant data about him. Name, age, field of study, that sort of thing." She nodded along to what he was saying and dismissed him when he was done.

Back at her desk, Cis looked over the information on the clipboard while she waited for her student to arrive. A few details caught her attention, most notably that he had Prosopagnosia. Interesting. Too bad he wasn't a test subject, Cis would have loved to try and cure it. Oh well, shouldn't wish for something that can't be. After she was done looking over the chart, she set it aside and got up to make some coffee. Might as well have something to offer the guy when he got here. She poured herself some when it was ready and sat behind her desk, continuing the work that was interrupted while she waited for Hyuntar to arrive.

Hyuntar hurried into the facility, rushing down the hallway since he was late to meet whoever was going to be learning from now. He was still on cloud nine from actually being approved to become a scientist here. It had always been his dream, and he was almost there. Absentmindedness plus hurrying, PLUS being late made him trip as he just arrived at the room, causing him face plant himself into the door. There was a crash, and he comically peeled himself off the door afterward. He slid to the floor, holding his nose in pain. Hopefully nobody noticed.

He stood up on shaky legs, knocking on the door with his gloved right hand. He rubbed his nose, hoping that the pain and the redness would go away soon. He carried a heavy dark long coat that matched the hue of his pants, and his shoes as well. Titanium plates glinted in the lighting of the hallway, from just above the right collar of his white button down shirt to his right cheek. Due to his shirt being white however, the dark plating was almost clearly visible through the fabric, and it ran across the top of the trapezius muscle before disappearing from sight. From the back, it was obvious that it extended about halfway down the right side of it, before it met the entire metallic section of his arm and shoulder. All of it was covered as he donned the coat as he waited though, making it less obvious, though there was no way to completely cover the metallic sections on his neck and face without it being suspicious.

There was a crash at the door followed shortly by a knock came at the door. Cis wasn't sure if she hoped that this was the intern she was assigned to or not. If it was, it wasn't exactly a very promising first impression. She finished up the section of work that she was working on, got up from her desk, picked up the cup with her coffee in it, and moved to the door. Cis was looking forward to having an intern under her, to tell the truth. She'd have an assistant to help her in her experiments and, if anything else, she'd have an errand boy to fetch her things.

The door opened with an almost inaudiable whoosh sound and Cis was looking at a male that was slightly shorter than her and probably only a few years younger. His nose was red, suggesting it had either been damaged recently or it was clogged. Thinking on the crash she had heard not too long ago, Cis was leaning more towards it being damaged. Taking in the whole picture of what he looked like, he matched the description of what she had been given.

"I assume you are Hyuntar Lyons?" She cocked an eyebrow at him. He didn't look the sort to be the type who would make it far in TRIM. Of course, there were scientists here that nobody would guess that they were masters in their fields. She would just have to see where this went. "I am Dr. Cis Silen. I will be the person you will be working under."

The door opened like a portal to another world, revealing it's guardian to be present. He looked up instinctively, searching the face, but he could not register it into his mind. The words and tone of voice were that of a female's, so he could at least tell that the figure was a she and not a he. Great deduction skills, he thought sarcastically to himself, blinking as he backed up a step.

"Yes ma'am," he replied immediately, in a respectful tone. His eyes traveled downwards, matching the lab coat to the ones the scientists always wore, and her apparel to that of a woman's. Of course, it was hard to miss that she was female. He immediately snapped his eyes up to look straight at her face, hoping she hadn't misinterpreted him looking her over as "checking her out," as most people would call it.

"How should I address you, ma'am? Dr. Silen?" he asked, already slightly embarrassed. He looked over people out of habit to find a way to recognize them, since he couldn't recognize their faces, and couldn't always use their voices since they didn't always speak in greeting. Lab coat? No, other scientists wear it as well. Long black hair? Maybe... there might be others as well. Brea- I'm not even going to go there! he listed mentally, frowning since he couldn't find a way to recognize her. I suppose I'll have to use footsteps, he thought in defeat, since he always had trouble with that way. When there were too many people walking, he had quite a bit of trouble identifying who was who.

Cis caught it when Lyons looked her up and down, he was standing right in front of her after all. She may rarely see it when people look her over but she wasn't blind. It could just be from the Prosopagnosia. She would let it slide this time. "Dr. Silen will be fine." She motioned him inside. "Would you like some coffee? Help yourself." She went back over to her desk and picked up a file.

"This is my current project. Call it a neutralizing serum." She handed him the file. "It is meant to leave a mage temporarily without its magic." She picked up a bag that was little more than a cube with a handle. "You can read it on the way to the subject. Follow me." Cis took a left out of the room assuming the intern would be behind her. She kept talking to him as if he had followed. She sure hoped he had. It would look rather silly otherwise.

Normally, she would have brought him up to speed as to what her serum did but all the details had been meticulously cataloged in the file so it would have been a pointless gesture. "So how'd you manage to get into TRIM anyway? I didn't see any notes about where you came across your schooling. Ah. Here we are."

Cis had always tried to keep her subjects as close to her office as possible. It really didn't make sense to her to have to walk halfway across the station just to get a job done. Some people, really! She opened the door to a completely white room. It had nothing in it save for a person curled up in a little ball in a corner. "Interesting." The subject looked up at her word, his eyes went wide, and he tried to shrink into a smaller ball.

So he was trying to get away from her. Hmm. Had the previous aggression died off? Had the serum wore off? Or was this all just a ploy? A way to lure her in before doing something to harm her. Interesting. Very interesting. How would the subject react now that she had an intern, another person to call the guards should something go wrong? Oh this is going to be a fun day indeed.

Hyuntar took the files and a cup of coffee, beginning to read immediately. He smiled happily, readily following after her. First day, and he was already going to see a test subject! His dream was really coming true. He snapped out of his daydream as she continued to talk.

He let himself just listen, filing away everything for later. For now, he tried to memorize the sound of her footsteps. She has a light step, but it's sharp and decisive too. Measured pace, set interval... everything about this woman sure is exact! She has the same posture as most women, but she's doesn't have that... fake dainty step in her... He managed to remember parts of her steps, so he would be able to recognize her after a bit of trial and error. She asked a question. Oh, I should answer, shouldn't I?

"Oh, schooling? I'm completely self-taught. I never had any real schooling," he replied, walking in behind her. He already knew that the rooms would be plain, but blinding white? What were they thinking? His eyes searched the room, and found the subject huddled in the corner. His thoughts mirrored what she said, having gone through the files.

"The file said he was aggressive earlier, didn't it?" he asked, coming out from behind her. He circled around, much like a feline would it's prey. He stood out against the white, and his shadow seemed to rise up around him, making him seem even darker with his clothes contrasting the white.

Self taught? That was a new one for her. Sure there might be others that had taught themselves but they were centuries old or something like that. She might have underestimated her intern. Cis would just have to see how he turned out. This might be an interesting experience indeed.

"Yes. He was much more aggressive earlier." She said, placing her bag on the examining bed in the middle. The room was one of the plainer laboratories, having a sink and cabinets on one wall while a couple of tables were lined against the other side of the room, their tops cleared and spotless and their drawers containing little besides sanitary items. A large examining bed took up the center of the room. "I had to call in some guards to restrain him. I'm sure he learned his lesson then, didn't you?" Cis said, the question directed to the mage in the corner. He flinched.

"Not to worry. You'll only have your blood drawn, then you'll be escorted back to your cell." She nodded to Lyons. "My associate here, who can introduce himself if he wishes, will be taking the blood sample. Please show him as much respect as if it were me." She did like being nice to her subjects, it usually got better responses from them and they were usually more cooperative. Especially after the first time they see that she is only being nice to them because she wants to be.

Cis opened her bag and withdrew a few syringes and handed them to Lyons. "I'll be giving you some simple tasks for now but don't worry, the real fun will start soon enough." She said in a low voice so the subject wouldn't hear. Cis had a gleam in her eyes that didn't give her the nicest look but it was a tame look compared to what she had planned.

((Sorry for the long wait. >.< Only excuse I can give is that school starting up threw me for a loop for a while.))

He waited patiently, listening to the conversation between the two fuzzy faced people. Well, more like commands from Cis and then whimpers and scared sounds from the test subject. I wonder if I should ask for his name...? He must hate being called by a number... or experiment so and so... it must be horrible, being nameless...

"Hello, I'm Hyuntar. Hyuntar Lyons," he greeted the subject, trying to seem happy. He was trying to be nice too, but how nice could you be if someone you were about to take blood from and possibly do some other inhumane experiments? However fun those may be, it wouldn't be good if the subject immediately backs away if you come close... It makes [strike:2kbv6tl6]inflicting pain[/strike:2kbv6tl6] doing experiments harder.

Hyuntar carefully took the syringes from Cis, having already had his fair share of being stabbed by needles constantly. Some of them hadn't hurt at all, but some of them... He didn't want to think about it. He could tell that she had a different expression on her face, but he couldn't tell what it was. The words definitely clarified it though. He walked forward, depositing all but one syringe on the table before approaching the subject.
