Physical Description

. . . On Screen Display . . .

. . . The Anatomy of a System . . .

In the Cyberworld of today, technology has advanced in ways not even dreamed by those ancient dreamers who first sparked the lights of computational creativity.  Once an old sales pitch, it truly has become a time where a computer can choose its user.

. . . Violin A-Mode . . .

The perfect vessel modified by the Violin Operating System to hold and safeguard its data took many changes throughout its first ten years of development.  The gender changed once, skin color eight times, and vocal capability once.  Officially Body Composition Revision X, the current Violin seems to be developing on the same path laid 13 years ago.  The body is saved under the skin subdirectory XISTOVE.

- . . . Powerful, mysterious, and graceful in design . . .

Violin is roughly 6'4", a tall, yet not very overbearing man with a caramel brown complexion.  His skin tone is even throughout his body, only changed with his 51N9L374RY bar code tattoo amidst his left shoulder.  He is flawed by no other tattoos, and only has two ear piercings in the left ear to hold his transponder node and update module set inside a sapphire and a diamond respectively.

- . . . Dataflow with the serenity and intensity of a waterfall . . .

His hair is what truly defines him.  Not only being a dark, unnatural color of midnight blue, the hair reaches down to just above his ankles, longer than most of his companions are tall.  While this "hair" is made of a synthetic fiber no different from common follicles, a few of the strands are replaced with light emitting data transfer strands, which would still be intact even if Violin was destroyed.  Commonly gone unseen, there are two thick black cords covered in black netting that attach to skin-grafted points on the back of his scalp, three inches long and covered with razor sharp contact.

Those are for "emergency" access.

- . . . A vessel of intuitive design . . .

His body is more muscular than lean, though he hasn't gotten the hang of bodybuilding yet.  Because of his lanky frame, his arms and legs are more slender than one would expect, while his chest and abdominal areas are developed more.  Straying from the more "humanoid" design of his body, his physical appearance make sudden changes that seem more aesthetic than practical.  Violin's ears take a more slanted, outwardly pointing and Elven fashion. the middle areas of the outer rim decorated with a solid midnight blue band on each ear.  His eyes are indigo, reflecting his normal operating status, and constantly display the running applications on his controlling ship in the left eye, with his internal functions in the right.

Violin's clothes are of his own choosing.  He commonly wears a simple button-up white shirt, usually dressed in some sort of business attire with his coat either hanging over his shoulder or hanging nearby.  Violin often wears a pair of small framed, rectangular glasses with green lenses.  They are functional, providing increased distance and a slight Over-the-Horizon advantage when his assimilated ship is overhead.  When in situations that call for more protection, Violin takes to his combat attire.

. . . Violin B-Mode . . .

. . . For Official Use Only . . .

The B-Mode, used for excessive ship output, maneuvering while in warp and Etherspace, and increased capability in combat.  Where as previous models of Violin's type took major physical changes in their applied B-Modes, Violin's B-Mode has been designed to limit changes in appearance during processing and thermal control.  Four exhaust ports located at the neck, lower back, and each calf are formed out of skin cells into white, modular ports, strong enough to prevent foreign object blockage.  While these ports are not required to maintain B-Mode, they are activated in order to prepare for any higher level operations  For this reason, the ports can be overridden.

An unavoidable change during Violin B-Mode is the change of NORMAL eye color to CAUTION, a neon Orange tint that flashes until solid upon completion of mode shift.  In the higher tiers of B-Mode, Violin's entire body is reverted to its factory casing mode, an almost completely form-fitting series of leg, arm and chest plating white and midnight blue color, with his ears replaced by to modular antennae.

Violin's garments within B-Mode are commonly the same, as his standard issue uniform from the SYMPHONIC INDUSTRY laboratories are the strongest affordable.  A large, white trench coat suffices for most of his situations, quite durable and with an energy nullification property.  The trench coat is quite heavy, lined with heavy chains stitched inside the fabric that aid in energy nullification.  The trench coat boasts modular panel designs of midnight blue, with black belt straps around the waist, arms and inside the breast.

The trousers are made of the same material, fitted with long front pockets in additional to the normal front and back pockets to facilitate ammunition.  His boots are made of a malleable polycarbon-titanium alloy microthreaded fabric, fitted with access points to facilitate control of unmanned vehicles.

Personality

Most people never see it coming.  While Violin works quite efficiently and seems flawless in public, he is actually about as concerned about life as a bucket of damp sponges.  He does what needs to be done to get by, and if it doesn't involve getting over his hangovers or getting drunk again, he isn't really concerned.

His earlier years(not that he is old or wise) have made him quite sarcastic in his sense of humor.

Weaknesses

A computer virus designed to take him down would be a major problem.  Then again, the same can be said about natural beings.  A year with no outside interaction will initiate a self-stasis mode, only able to be activated from an outside source by a significant amount of interaction.

Though knowing his origin may lead away from the thought, he is a person.  He suffers the same physical and emotional flaws as natural humanoids, though his logic failsafe and physical hardpoints make him more sturdy.  That said, the logic fail safes work only as well as they are programmed.  There will always be bugs...

Strengths

Hive Logic - The ability to quickly confer with various sources in order to come to a decision.  This is usually turned off, since machines have become quite haughty and incapable in one form or another.

Ars Machina - He is a machine.  He is a man.  The flawless merger of these two incompatible forces has not only lead to a painful digital version of a hangover, but the ability to devise machinery in ways that no fleshy or rigid machine could think.  Or compute.

Possessions

Key to Atla - Not a physical key, but a state of having one's DNA in a ship's database.  Violin has access to the civilian ship Atla.

Spruce Violin - What some think is his namesake.  Violin made the choice to play the violin on his own as a parody.  The violin has a glossy finish, but isn't very decorative.  The wood, however, is quite aged.

5417 - A large, cylindrical vessel about five feet in height, with sheer sides and a top in the shape of a Japanese temple.  It stays in the Engine room of the Atla.

Physical Hardpoint - The physically upgradeable points on Violin's body.  These can either be added to his physical composition, or used with increased proficiency as separate objects

Head – Glasses.  They do just what glasses do, but on a greater scope for a Bio AI.  These glasses are small, green lenses that provide an interface to monitor ship functions away from the ship, and provide advanced Over-the-Horizon sight when an assimilated ship is overhead.

R. Arm - SYMPHONIC INDUSTRIES Magister Wave Blade - The weapon, while on the OFF position, is a hilt.  It is in the shape of a one-foot long white hilt with four silver finger grooves and a white sphere on the top, with two winged guards.  When activated, the hilt produces a blade made of concentrated Mana depending on the type of filter loaded.

L. Arm -

R. Leg -

L. Leg -

Waist - Utility belt.  Currently holding wallet pouch with wallet, Energy Mana Filter, Fire Mana Filter, holster for medium-sized weapon.

Likes

Assorted flavors, ages and fermentations of alcoholic beverages.  Some say it's his fuel.  He says they're morons.

Dislikes

Loud noises and bright colors.  And Wireless networks.

Magic/Abilities

MODE SHIFT

The ability to shift between operational modes.  Violin currently possesses A-Mode and B-Mode.

Mana-Nodal Interface - A database of encountered Extraplanar experiences, based on affects on the physical realm, the electronic realm, and explored realms archived by the database.  This is purely a reference database, which can be used to compute values and make assumptions on the workings of the world.

Middle C Rifle Interface - He is a creation of the SYMPHONIC INDUSTRIES laboratories.  A few extra easter eggs have been dropped in for good measure.  Violin has proficiency with rifles and heavy artillery interfaces, and can mentally integrate with such weapons created specifically by SYMPHONIC.

Melee Resonance Proficiency - Violin's combat suite is based on touch, feel, and an enhanced facet of sound.  Under his ears are small sensors that take the differences in sound, meshing them with his normal sight and feeling measurements to make advanced decisions.  These are not "ears" in such fashion that they add to his hearing, or cause additional sensations.  They are purely computational.

Family The Symphonic Software releases, a series of diodes, Blocks 2A-7D of the Space Station Libra, a Bodyguard Maid-Weapon employed somewhere on Mars, and at least 7.6 billion personal computers.

Friends An imaginary friend he calls The Captain.

Foes Sobering up.

History

SYMPHONIC INDUSTRIES LTD, a research laboratory out of the Mars Gravion Garden Towers.  The company's history reaches back to research and development of many technologies that lead to many of the modern ttransportation and weaponry vehicles in use in modern warfare, though their major scope is that of spacecraft construction.  The Symphonic Labs received most of their funding and boom in success from their involvement with the Seruna Space Stations, responsible for many of the third-party components in use today.  They own a limited number of subsidiaries, including Clef Lifetime Computers and the handheld/rifle line SONGSTRIKE.

Violin is what most would consider a "pet project".  While his application would be quite beneficial in today's world, the time and cost in order to create him and his kin versions are so spectacular that mass production is nothing more than a distant dream.  A distant, unethical dream.

The premise of Violin is simple.  Artificial intelligence, being flawed when it comes to mortal emotions and unique biological differences, has been given a chance to feel what it is to be alive.  A particular ship management system named violin was given a chance to live through the body of a fetus that it created, changed, and eventually grew into.  Though he keeps it a secret from the researches that surround him, the operating system and the child it created had long since died from existence.  The Violin that exists now is an entity all of its own.

What is to be said about his life?  He lived as a normal child, one who grew to a young man with common sense, a love of good liquors, and thankfully a life that never lead him to regret not having a family like everyone else.  After all, life is what one makes of it.  What matters is the future.

A future that he can make into his own.
