Name:  Arianna Vanar

Nicknames:  Ari

Gender:  Female

Species:  Human

Birth Date:  21 December

Age:  Twenty-two

Birth Place:  Teinar

Current Residence:  Teinar

Occupation:  Scientist and a bit of a scout for Teinar; Ari monitors the progress, toxicity of the air, and various other aspects of Earth as a main job.  She also studies the beasts that roam above ground.

Magic/Abilities:  Ari has no magical or psychic abilities.

Religion:  Ari is extremely religious, despite her role as a scientist.  She has her beliefs and keeps them close, considering the Earth sacred and holding a deep respect for everything born of it.  Although she is a scientist, she views the amount of technology in these worlds as evil, and uses her scientific knowledge with hope of finding a way to restore the lands.  In terms of gods, she views the Earth as a sort of dying god, although also believes in a higher power of the whole of the universe.

Sexual Orientation/Status:  Heterosexual; single

Height:  5’ 5â€?

Weight:  115 pounds

Eye Color:  Brown

Hair Color:  Strawberry blonde, although more on the blonde side

Physical Description:  Despite her generally small and thin shape, Ari has a harsh look to her, one of almost constant seriousness.  She is a very nearly a clichĂ© in terms of her looks, and does that so no one can doubt the seriousness and professionalism in which she takes her job.  Her waist-length hair is almost always pulled back, even when she is not working, and her brown eyes are hidden behind square reading glasses with a thick white frame.  Given her dedication to her work, the last thing she wants is for someone to judge her by her appearance, and so she tends to purposely dress into her role, wanting people to see her for her work for the city, not for the person she may or may not be.

In terms of clothing, Ari normally sticks to typical military-like clothing during her work as a scout, and also when she’s simply above ground working as a scientist.  She often keeps her skin hidden under layers of clothing while out in the field, no matter the weather, as protection from both the toxic earth, and whatever beasts she chooses to study.

When not on the job, she dresses quiet professionally.  Ari is the type of person who, no matter where you see her, you know she a scientist and a military woman, for the manner in which she walks and talks, to the clothing she wears.  Perhaps the least professional part of her is the worn leather bag she always carries, both while above ground, and below.  While one would be quick to assume it harbors only minor field notes, her mask, and various other things needed to survive in her trade, the front pouch is also home to Pup, a mutant rodent she brought back during one of her studies, who she keeps with her always, albeit always hidden in either her coat or her bag.

Personality:  Ari is, very simply, the type of person who can be described as “married to her work.â€?  Ever since her father’s capture and her brother’s estrangement, she has forsaken most of her private life to throw herself in her studies and her job.  Although young, she believes she was raised to be a scientist and a scout, and foremost in her mind is protecting her country when she can.  However, while she is often quick to put her country, science, and her job first, this obsessive dedication can be just as destructive as it is helpful.

Although she is not the type to describe herself as lonely, she has a tendency to attach herself to those she becomes close to.  However, not since her father and a few childhood friends, whom she never sees, Ari is not the type to seek out friends, with the small exception of Pup*, who is all she finds she needs in terms of friendship and company.  Pup is the one major betrayal she’s made against Teinar, harboring a beast many would find potentially dangerous, simply because he is a creature from the toxic world above them.

She is far from trusting, with small exceptions—family friends, and a select few other scouts, although would die by her word.  In terms of other general traits, she is very analytical, and does not possess a creative bone in her body, unless one wants to count being a capable military strategist as creative, and while she’s the type to settle down a read a book, it’s probably on the history of Teinar, and not some fantastical adventure featuring a mutant cyborg from the year 43990.

Family:
Ari’s father, Jani Vanar, is a soldier and scientist, born of a long line of Teinar citizens.  He takes great pride in both his former country, and the underground city in which he lives and works.  Although his job, first and foremost, is that of a scientist, he raised both of his children with a focus on science, history, and general information, wanting neither of them to be left without knowledge of the world in which they live, and hoping to harbor a greater understanding of the universe they inhabit, and hopefully be proactive in the fight against what it has become.  Although he had a small amount of magical ability, he was no mage except in definition alone, and kept it well hidden until he was captured by Edanith soldiers while heading to one the Seruna space stations.

Ari’s mother, Evelynn Vanar, is the daughter of two Edanith refugees.  Although raised in Teinar, she shares some of the Edanith beliefs concerning magic, although first and foremost she keeps to their traditional animistic roots.  She is neither a zealot, by any means, although she still harbors slight prejudices against mages, even after marrying a man who by all means could have been a mage had he not chosen to be a combat soldier.  She worked as a seamstress for a time, although is nearly constantly between jobs.  Evelynn was careful to raise her children with a respect for the earth, and is easily the reason behind Ari’s own religious tendencies.

Cyril Vanar, Ari’s elder brother, is two years Ari’s senior, and works as a soldier, just as his father did.  He, like Ari, harbors no powers, magical or otherwise, and instead focused on honing his ability to defend Teinar when the time comes.  He is a bit of a revolutionary, constantly hoping for an offensive attack on Aedolis, wishing that his people no longer had to be refugees in their own land, and it is these tendencies which eventually caused Cyril to estrange himself from his parents and Ari.

Friends:  Nothing yet.

Foes:  Nothing yet.

History:  Born in the underground Teinar, Ari was the second child of Jani and Evelynn Vanar.  She was raised, alongside for brother, with a military-like strictness.  Her father was careful to teach both of his children various ways to survive and defend themselves in the violent and dangerous world in which they lived, while her mother kept both of her children harshly religious.

Growing up, despite being the younger child, Ari was something of the favorite with her father.  On his days at home, he trained both her and Cyril in combat, although focused mostly in teaching his daughter the general knowledge, both scientific and otherwise, he thought she should know.  He loved his daughter, although did not shelter her in the ways most parents seek, instead instilling her with what she needed to know to survive.

Although much of her early life was spent in fear of the world around her, Ari was raised rather comfortably—her parents were well-off with her father’s soldier’s salary, and she had never been in immediate danger.  Intelligent and quick-witted, she was swift to learn, and excelled at doing so.  At eighteen, when it came time for her to serve her two years in the military, she did so without complaint, and although not the best in combat, she was a decent strategist, and her scientific tendencies proved helpful.

During her second year of military service, she received word that her father was captured by Edanith soldiers while in the line of duty.  Deeply depressed at this revelation, she became even more dedicated to her work in the military and immediately applied to work as a scout and scientist once her two years were up.  Her brother, however, took a different approach, becoming even more daring with his already-rebellious views on the way in which people lived, and threw himself even farther into pressed for an active attack on Aedolis.  Soon after, due to his views, Ari and her mother choose to cut off contact with him, losing not only a father that year, but her brother, too.

As a scout and scientist, despite her own personal issues, she was highly adept.  Not only monitoring the conditions of the upper world, she studied them carefully, and with an eagerness that could perhaps border on obsession.

About a year into her job as a scout, she also began a study of the beasts that roamed the upper world.  Keeping tabs and making records of their behavior and mannerisms, when not working her scout job, she is often intently studying the creatures that survive the toxic remains of Earth, even going so far as making contact with what seems to be the friendlier species (this aspect she keep well hidden from her superiors, knowing they would consider it a great risk).  During one such an incident, Ari managed to not only make contact, but befriend a medium-sized, hairless, mutated rodent-like creature she calls Pup (as a scientist, Ari is not very creative,) smuggling him back into Teinar in her bag, keeping him as a pet, and considering him her little friend.

No commentary, but I will give a brief profile of Pup, Ari’s mutant pet—just a bit about his species, and his tendencies once I have the time.
