The Cancer / Re: A Recruitment Drive (Open)
« on: January 29, 2018, 12:22:12 pm »
Black clad legs pistoned one in front of the other as the android fought to keep the 5 foot long case strapped to it's back in place. The friction from constantly trying to run faster than they physically could started to evaporate the lubricant applied to the synthetic muscles and forced the legs to dwindle to a walk. The figure pushed on regardless, and broke out of the alley into the more reliably illuminated platform of Hangar 626.

Anton pushed himself through the crowd, narrow shoulders and broad coffin shaped case knocking pedestrians aside as he bee-lined for the far side of the chamber, entering into the recesses and alleys of the depots and buildings on the hangar deck. He left a trail of minor chaos in pursuit of his quarry.

Crucial seconds passed as he finally clambered over a low ventilation pipe and ducked beneath a catwalk to come up to a trench in the metal floor of a port, where crews could make repairs on the underside of landed ships. His shaded eyes scanned across the vessel parked there, an odd paint job making it hard to recognise. But he spotted the faintest glimmer of light and heat, an indication of what he was looking for. If he was wrong, the trail would already be cold either way.

Paying little attention to the odd looks of passers by he hoisted himself up onto the edge of the trench, and leaned out to see that the airlock was guarded by two crew members, one reclining back on his chair. Anton stepped up and walked out into the crowd, and made to go past the ship, looking at the airlock and seated pair from the corner of his eye, before spotting the sign.

He stopped and turned, as if suddenly becoming interested, and used a finger to lift his shaded eye gear up onto his forehead making a show of getting a better look. He forced his face to go softer, and started to swagger confidently over to the desk, shrugging the heavy case onto his shoulder more comfortably.

Stopping in front of the pair, he let the case drop and leaned against it, looking down at the man in the shades and smirking as he took his own pair off.
He spoke in a smooth and simple voice, pronouncing each word with care "Hey there skipper, I see you've been catching some of those star rays recently. Been hoping to do the same for a long while now, hence the gear." He slipped the shades back on, realising he may be trying to0 hard with the whole taking them off and putting them back on performance.
Anton let his face relax into a more serious one, "What sort of talent are you looking for exactly?" He said to the woman this time, before flashing his hidden eyes to the airlock and then back to them.

Welcome Wagon / Greetings, I'm here now
« on: January 29, 2018, 10:04:00 am »
I am very happy to have become acquainted with this place, I have some ideas for plots and a great deal of enthusiasm to get caught up in others.
For the most part, I'll be hanging about and doing my best to keep things lively, mostly PM'ing to say how much I enjoyed a certain thread or character.
All the best to stories and telling them in future.

__________________BIOGRAPHY

Physical Description & Outfitting
His android body is mostly thin with bulkier limbs. He has stark white hair and red irises, the pigment having broken down with age. His surface is an olive-brown polymer, with cheap replacements covering augmentations and repairs. His face is young with minimalist features. The cuts and welds on his face show his age and make him worn and less handsome as an android.

He wears a black turtleneck and chinos under a beige trench coat as well as polarised eye gear. He's also 'obtained' a combat-skin, a vacuum resistant body suit that isn't meant for extended exposure. It does however have armour-like properties, being a continuous pale green garment calibrated to his unchanging body with red highlights and chrome metal meshing. The matching helmet including a polarised visor and HUD.

Personality
Anton has a reduced emotional capacity out of choice since resisting human temptations and weaknesses such as cowardice are important to him. Despite this he can't bring himself to abandon his 'humanity' entirely, to become a pure machine would mean being little more than a security administrator again.
He deals in absolutes when it comes to his beliefs on right and wrong, not an objective machine but simply an uncompromising person. He likes to think this helps him cope with what and who he is, uncertainty unnerving him, but again, he has resisted the urge to shut off his doubt altogether.

More than anything Anton is determined to not remain lost, to achieve his goal of improving those parts of the world he can reach. He wants to protect and uplift people from the cruelty and injustice of the world. So he fights as a vigilante, standing up for the ideals of heroism, and wanting to eliminate the more base aspects of humanity, wanting people to be noble and strong.

Abilities
He has become adept at close quarters combat because of his urban surroundings and thanks to his background he has rudimentary understandings of most any militarily or security relevant discipline, from basic encryption to piloting spacecraft, skills like repairing his own android body having to be learned dutifully.

He has augmented himself in many ways over the years with hardware which includes a fake Aedolis minichip as well as numerous weapons throughout his body such as foot-mounted spikes and a plasma 'hand-cannon' for heavy ordnance. But he's not so thorough as that children's cartoon character "Inspector Gizmo".
He has also sunk resources into; reinforcing his chassis, increasing synthetic muscle output, upgrading his data-hardware and finally installing a larger power-core in order to repurpose his body meant for pleasure; for business. His one greatest advantage besides his plasma-cannon is a personal shield meant for Edani ambassadors, running off his central power when activated.

All of these augments and especially the power-core have made his body unstable however. His original android chassis was not designed to support this sort of hardware, and so once his defence is down, or if he exerts himself too much, he is liable to shatter like glass.

Relationships
He misses Anastasia, she was smart for an Aedolian kid, probably thanks to her father's social status. He felt he could serve to learn a lot about the naive ideals of a goodhearted child, but he would have hated to see her become pampered and entitled as she grew older.
Besides that, he knows some people around Cancer, and they know him, but no roots to speak of, the only reason he isn't more of a wanderer is because the madness of the station provides a type of security, that, and he doesn't have a surefire way off.

History
Anton's first iteration was as a artificial intelligence created by Thanatos Inc. R&D as a pet project in security administration, a "Nanny" programme of sorts to help protect people in specific ways. The true trials of his sophistication began later however. Rising above 'simple' protocols for defending sapient life and protecting against disaster, Anton was elevated to the status of an self-aware 'emotional intelligence' and tested on more on ethical issues than mathematical ones.
The applications of such a being that the Thanatos team told their clients and investors were numerous but vague; Immunity to psychics and a near indomitable defence against digital attacks in one package, Being capable of moral choice and advanced thought and so avoid shooting unruly children.
But the project was so highly specific in it's focus of creating artificial life and costly that it was terminated soon after Anton began maturation. By this point the researchers saw Anton not as a product or child, but as their greatest creation, having planned to create more like him for their own purposes. To prevent his destruction or falling into the hands of Thanatos proper, they secretly sold him to one of their trusted clients on Aedolis, to be recovered at a later date.

Anton was used for home security in the household of a High-caste military official for some months. However, it was inevitable the official would discover the truth about Anton being more than a sophisticated military A.I, and this prediction came true when the man found evidence of the intelligence befriending his daughter.
Anton chose to flee. He purged the majority of the data that wouldn't compress into his new body, choosing to keep his personality and some of intelligence over anything else, and downloaded himself into one of the recharging pleasure androids belonging to the official's wife.
He then fled to Cancer via a smuggler since he had no minichip, and once there he began enforcing his own brand of security, earning both honest and bloody money, no longer beholden to the rules he once obeyed. He went about augmenting himself for the task with hardware illegal outside of the station, and has since dedicated himself to opposing the vapid and self-serving culture of Aedolis, as well as the worse individuals aboard the Cancer station.
He still thinks about who and what he is, and about his past also. Thanatos may come for him one day, and he didn't have many place to run, but until then her would the good fight, be more than machine, more than human: A hero.
