Asher arched a brow at that. "Ya all end up here eventually?"

Oh gods oh gods oh gods...

"Um, no, they uh...they..."

Fuck, he didn't even know if they were alive.

Ari felt his lip tremble, and he bit it to try to stop it. But it didn't stop the hot tears that slipped free and rolled down his cheeks, which he was quick to dash away--but not quick enough. Like a dam that had gotten a hole in it, what started as a trickle soon burst into a choked sob, and Ari twisted away from Nike in embarrassment and pressed  the heels of his palms to his eyes.

Fuck...

"So, a whole week, huh?" Jewel said as she flopped down onto the couch and stretched out, arms folded behind her head.

"Whatcha do to pass that kinda time, eh? Eat special brownies and surf SenseNet?"

64
Follow it, she did.

And unfortunately, she didn't even see the quick flash of shadow.

She was too busy being in sheer awe of the structure she was in, angling her flashlight so she could marvel at its architecture, and so the camera inside her helmet could capture some good images. But when she returned her focus to her scanner, she saw with puzzlement that...the point was moving?

But...that couldn't be possible.

Don't worry, it can't be aliens, she told herself, swallowing as she watched the point move. You're not reading any heat signals, or even any motion signals that could be triggered by organic life. It's just the point itself that's moving... And that point was probably, in actuality, completely stable. It was probably just the readings that were faulty, from the way the equipment interacted with the environment. This was new ground, after all.

And so she pushed onward, down the hall, slowly closing in on that beacon.

Oh gods, he was leaving. And though Sitara had regarded Rhevi with panic before, he had quickly become an oddly stable presence in all the crazy. At the very least, he seemed a decent person, and he had become familiar. Now she was being thrown into an unfamiliar situation all over again, whisked away onto a strange new ship by a strange human that was filling her with new, fresh waves of panic.

She really wanted to ask him not to go. But pride made her bite her tongue. She wasn't about to plead.

"Okay, got it," she said instead, proud her voice was steadier than she felt. "Just, uh...I guess I'll see you around? Eventually?"

With a shrug, still skeptical, Ari gave Rhevi a little wave of his hand. "No further questions, and thanks for the free babe delivery!"

"Ah! Well, shit, that ain't that bad at all," Jewel said, and put away the last stray items from the box she was unpacking.

"So basically, we get to have a week long slumber party."

"...Alright, duly noted. Saving the gummies," Jewel said, and pushed them further away from herself.

"How long of a trip are we looking at? I mean, I'm in no rush. Just, first time flyer and all."

"Whatcha got in mind?"

"Huh," Ari said, a non-committal sound. Go against a race tough enough to enslave an entire planet? No thanks. The folks he'd dealt with didn't even work on THAT huge of a scale.

"Sounds like suicide, but far be it for me to hold anyone back if they really wanna jump."

"Pffft. Whatever, s'long as I get paid in the long run," Ari said with a dismissive wave of his hand, wanting to get off that particular subject fast. The topic of slavery was always an awkward one--and he didn't like Rhevi's subtle prodding, because it was hitting a little too close, and giving him the uncomfortable impression the bastard knew more than he let on. Why would your average pirate care one way or the other about liberating slaves, after all?

Maybe that was his own paranoia speaking on the matter, but dammit, there were some things he just didn't want getting out. Especially not among his crew.

That didn't mean he wasn't totally going to take the guy's advice, though.

Letting out a low sigh, Ari leaned his shoulder against the wall. "So, this is Sarah's crazy scheme, yeah? Did she ever happen to mention where, exactly, all these freed people are gonna go? I obviously ain't got space."

Shuffling front and center as directed, Sitara crossed her arms and hunched her shoulders, foot tapping rapidly as she continued to stare Ari down. Or rather, stare him up, since she had to crane her neck to look at him. She was a short person in a forest of giants!

"...So...what you're tellin' me is that little anklebiter's the special delivery?" Ari said at last, bringing a hand to his head and rubbing along his left temple. "Some little bunny girl? Now, don't get me wrong, I ain't sayin' she ain't cute. Like, 10/10, would bang, never gonna complain about a cute chick hand delivered to my ship. But shit, I rushed all this way, ya made it sound like fuckin' life or death--"

"It is life or death, and if you lay a hand on me you'll find that out personally!" Sitara growled, bristling.

Ari held up his hands. "Whoa there, darlin'. Easy does it. But seriously, uh...when was someone gonna tell me I was shippin' slaves?"

Ari may have been more shocked to meet Rhevi, if he hadn't met his share of interesting alien races in his (comparatively) short life. But for him, it was just another day on the job, and Rhevi's appearance illicited no more surprise than raised eyebrows and a curious, interested once over. Couldn't help it if he was a bit of a xenophile!

The little bunny-looking companion near him, though? Well, she was sure easier on the eyes. She saw him looking at her, though, and quickly scooted behind Rhevi, glaring at him.

What the fuck?

Whatever.

Ari beamed up at Rhevi and gave a casual shrug. "Gotta be comfy in my own home, eh?" he said as he took the touchscreen and swiped his finger over the screen, messily signing. "Besides, I don't work out not to show these abs off. Can't say ya don't like what ya see."

With a saucy wink at Rhevi, he passed the screen back to him and checked his wrist terminal when it blipped. "By the way, Sarah says somethin' 'bout puttin' important shit in the main body of emails, aaand..."

He looked around, brow furrowed, as though realizing only then that there were no packages, no boxes. Just Rhevi standing there.

...and the girl.

Uh.

"So, uh...where's this package I'm pickin' up?" And had signed for.

After a pause, reassured that the case was nigh indestructable, Sitara let the case go--and gasped lightly as, indeed, it floated along after her. That was...that was so weird! But also so cool! If there were more time, she would have loved to hear an explanation, but they were already approaching the docking port--

And she was pretty well out of time.

Heart in her throat, she sucked in a deep breath. "Thank you," she said quietly, looking up at Rhevi before turning her eyes back to the door. "For, uh...for saving me and stuff."

"Permission granted, come on aboard, over," Ari said as he rose from his chair with a stretch and finished the last swig of his instant coffee. He'd had the decency to put on a pair of cargo pants and NOT greet them in his boxers, but he didn't bother with a shirt. His ship was a shirt-free zone, after all, professionalism be damned.

He doubted Sarah's fish friends would mind.

He headed for the docking port, arriving just as the door slid open with the hiss of released air pressure.

Advanced Training Complex / Hello darkness, my old friend. |: [open!]
« on: August 25, 2016, 11:57:59 pm »
The utility closet was Arrow's old friend. She'd utilized it once, when she'd first arrived in the ATC, to escape from some bullies back when she'd been a nobody.

Er...not that she was a somebody, now.

She'd just figured, you know, that once she was no longer super fresh meat, maybe this wouldn't have to keep being a thing?

The shy ones were always easy targets, and bullies tended to be cowards, but knowing that didn't help her much. Oh, sure, she'd grown a backbone since coming here--the drills and training and new reality of her world did that. She'd learned to fight back, and to talk back. But a backbone didn't do much good when it was three on one and you were smaller.

Thank goodness she was also faster.

And that's how she found herself locked in a utility closet.

Yup. Locked.

Oh, she'd escaped the bullies, all right. She'd dashed away and hidden herself in the closet, which had worked awesomely several months back. But this time they were onto her, for it was hard to hide from a psychic. She'd braced herself for a fight, prepared for them to drag her out--

And instead, laughing, they'd locked the damned door.

Their voices had long since faded down the hall as they headed off to the cafeteria for a lunch it looked like she'd be missing. With a groan, Arrow leaned back against the wall and slid down until she was seated atop an upended bucket, cleaning supplies scattered at her feet and two mops competing for space and insisting on leaning on her no matter how she rearranged them.

She let out another sigh, chin resting on her hand.

Maybe she could kick the door out?

That would be pretty cool, busting on out of captivity like that. What wouldn't be so cool was being found here. How pathetic was that?

Arrow waited several minutes, just to be sure the hall was clear, and then pushed the bucket out of the way so she could sit on the dusty floor and brace against the wall. Pulling her knees to her chest, she kicked out as hard as she could and then cursed as the impact went right through her, and the door didn't budge.

"Initiate dockin' with your upper dockin' port, roger that. Over!" Ari confirmed, and as the Velari Hesta began to initiate boarding procedures, Ari nudged the Sassy Juice on in. He set it to autopilot and let it take over from there, then spun in his chair to face his terminal and send off a quick email.

Yo, Sarah, I'm rendevousing with your guy, about to pick up your shit. You owe me, missy. ;)

xoxo Ari

Meanwhile, to say Sitara was overwhelmed was an understatement. Crab-face had briefed her pretty good, but now that everything was springing into motion, she found she wasn't ready! Her heart thumped wildly as she slipped the medallion over her head, and clung to the case, not understanding what any of it was or what any of it meant, except that it was apparently important. So important she couldn't let it out of her sight! She tucked the medallion under her shirt and hugged the case to her chest.

"What...what is it? The medallion? The case?" she said quickly, though now that time was running out, of course she had even more questions! How he'd floated the case was among them, but now she had to prioritize, and she was starting to grow panicky as she felt herself being rushed.

Oh man oh man oh man she didn't wanna go yet, she didn't wanna do this, she didn't wanna go on some crazy mission with a Rividean looking chick and a pervy dude!

"W-what happens if I lose it or it breaks or it gets stolen or something?!"

Pearly buns? Well, she supposed it was better than Jeri. Or--shudder--Jericurl. Still, she jumped when she was pinched and shot him a mock glare, before she looked down at her own ass with a lifted brow.

Yeah, she was pretty damned pasty. Not even the hint of a tan line anywhere.

"It's not like there's much sun out here, you know," she grumbled as she shuffled along to the--heh--cockpit, wincing as the muscles of her thighs and ass and even her freakin' arm ached. Damn, she really was out of shape, which was no surprise, really, since she was allergic to the gym. She grabbed up her clothes and pulled them on, cleaning herself with a wipe before she put on her underwear and jeans, then gathered up Cal's stuff and trudged on back.

She dumped his jeans onto his head. "There you go, silky balls."

Oh wow, he was already making himself sound like an idiot. Gabriel barely resisted the urge to slap his hand against his forehead, and winced instead.

"Uh, yeah, Gabriel. Sorry, nice to meetcha. I just meant you're taller in person! As opposed to a computer screen? Yeeeah." Oh, just shut up already! Now wasn't the time to get all starstruck!

Following her inside, he glanced at the hologram--and his geeky little heart instantly wanted to take that thing apart and figure out what made it tick. What a fascinating piece of equipment...but now wasn't the time nor place.

"Er, Mountain Mist if you have it," he said, before looking back to Nikita. "Hey, so, thanks for having me over! Y'know, makes for good publicity and stuff, Pilots being 'normal' and all that, a superstar in pajamas...it humanizes us! At least, that's what my PR person says, and what do I know about that junk? I just go with what she says. Oh yeah, and juuust to get it out of the way because I know it's obligatory and you know it's gonna happen and I'm sure you hear it a bajillion times a fan meet..."

He cleared his throat soberly--then let out his breath in his best approximation of a manly squeal, hopping up and down. "I am like your biggest fan except probably not because everyone else says that but I've been listening to you forever and it drives everyone crazy but I don't care 'cause you're so awesome!"

"Hah, sounds like a new party trick for the frat boys to break out," Jewel said with a snicker--before her eyes fell on the gummies.

Oh gods, sour gummies. No fucking way.

She snatched up a pack of them. "Oh my gods tell me one of these packs is mine."
