First Chance at Flight

Crates were great for hiding. After a while, they could stink something awful, but Dazan didn't plan on staying here for that long. This on had hay all on the inside making it harder than usual for him to stay still. It itched, and made it hotter than it really was. It stuck through his short hair, jabbed at his neck, arms, legs, back... just about everywhere. He'd been itching for a while. Voices overhead made him stop moving. He held his breath.

"Did you find him yet?"
"No. Why the hell do the ones from Libra always run?"
"They're too corrupt for even a bullet to get through."
"We'll just keep looking. The comander'll have our hides. Where the Hell is his Mordecai?!"
"Out of range. No doubt. That brat has been giving everyone a hard time finding him."

A few curses and mumbling later, it fell silent. Dazan readily let out his breath. His face no doubt had to have been blue. He arranged himself to that he can peek out the top of the crate. Lifting the lid, the 7 year old carefully peeked out. Coast was clear. Lifting the lid completely, he started to get out. One leg over, he felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning to look, his heart dropped. it was the guard, whacking that deadly weapon against his hand. The evil grin made the young boy almost. Almost.

The man reached for him, Dazan held hid hands out in an effort to keep the man away. There was a yell as the man was forced away from him. Dazan didn't take time to question. He ran for the nearest hover bike he could find. A man had just started his up when Dazan pushed him off it. "I call dibs!" With that, he took off.

Not knowing where he was going, he dodged people and raced ahead. Looking behind him, he saw the others trying to catch up. With a new hope for escape, he yelled behind him. "You're never gonna keep me here!!!"

Red curly hair was almost glowing in the sunlight as the girl walked along next to her sitter. Kyra's parents were out discussing something with some or other. She didn't really take note of it. Their absence meant she could get out and walk around, maybe even get a chance to sneak away from supervision. The nanny was holding on tight to her hand. Kyra didn't think she needed someone to watch over her. She was obviously old enough to take care or herself.

Kyra spotted a booth with toys and jumped up.

"Can we go look?! Please!" The nanny looked down at her, shaking her head. It was like she was taking a dog for a walk instead of watching over a child. The woman started to pull her in the other direction and Kyra glared at the woman. She though for a moment weighing the benefits of getting away to the spanking she would get later. It didn't take much of a guess to what she chose.

She pulled her much smaller hand out of the woman's with force and landed on one of her knees. She felt the scratch and the knee to her jeans ripped but got up quickly and took off towards the booth. She had gotten away! This was awesome. She disappeared into the crowd heading for the booth. She heard a commotion a little ways of and turned her head as it got closer.

A hoverbike was heading straight at her.
