Fashion Magazine!
« on: May 16, 2008, 09:52:52 am »
So, one of my favorite parts of cyberpunk games is the pop culture. I think it's really a lot of fun to figure out what music styles are big, what sports are in, what the clothes are like, what's the big trend in movies, ect.

So in RotE, I am making a rather large brand name fashion brand for Aedolis, EGIS (pronounced E-jis). Think like Vera Wang, Armani and the like today. And I was thinking about trying to do up some fashion drawings for a sort of magazine/portfolio for the company.

But that is a lot of drawings and there are a lot of talented people who play here. So I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in making a few drawings to go into the portfolio thingywhatsit. I will in no way take ownership of said artwork in anyway. And the portfolio will only be for RotE.

The fashion of EGIS is all about the human silhouette. Because magic and technology can so easily give those who can afford it perfect shapes and features, fashion has to keep stepping things up. Woman want these super hourglass, pornstar bodies. All large breasts, curvy hips, long legs, tiny waists. Men want those Disney Prince bodies. Broad shoulders, thin hips, muscular arms and legs.

And the clothes reflect that. Everything is tight or see through, letting people easily see the shape and form of the body under the clothes. Multiple layers of different colors and fabrics are big.

For the lower end of the clothing that is mass produced for cheaper stores, most things are slip on/off or use Velcro to keep it closed. And have small 'cheats' in them to help people who can't afford to get their body modified to fit the current fashion standard. Extra padding for breasts, hips and shoulders and tight bindings to pull waists in.

The higher level, much more expensive things begin to see things like snaps, buttons and lacing. As those are much more expensive to put it. The very high up products are hand sewn and are only affordable by the very wealthy.

Clothes for the older crowd are a bit different. Those go more to more like...well...Greek Gods and Goddess. Tight and revealing in parts, loose and flowing in others. It changes the silhouette from being the human outline to more graceful lines.

Hair....I have nothing on yet. So...yeah. Have at thee.

Hopefully some of y'all will want to help out with this and like the ideas. And please don't worry about not being good enough or that you can't draw clothes or what have you. I'm not all that great and when I do have good clothes, it's because my fashion designer friend has helped me with them. Every level of skill is very much welcome. And if you get stumped on ideas, I'm more then happy to help you brainstorm some ideas.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

If you don't feel comfortable submitting art (though I have no problem if you do want to do some designs), you could help with layout (I have zero skills) or designs or whatever takes you fancy really.

This sounds like a cool idea, and I would SO draw stuff for it, even if only because I need a reason to draw more, but...

I have NO freaking clue what Vera Wang, Armani, whatever is supposed to look like o___o (So not fashion literate.)

And, all my people end up dressed like hardcore goth/punk/weirdoes XD

The styles for RotE aren't really anything like Vera Wang or Armani. I just meant that it's a huge name brand like that. The fashion for the portfolio follow the guidelines I mentioned in the main post. Mostly tight fitting layers and the like.

And please, totally feel free to put your own punk/goth/weird twist on that. There are always lots of different ways to visualize the concept.

The designs are both still quite awesome. And there is no shame in tracing. I've found it useful on occasion.

And thank you again for the art. Those are perfect XD
