Line in the sand (Rina)
« on: August 13, 2010, 02:59:14 pm »
Bellamy wasn't having the best of days. He'd managed to somehow flunk a written test because he'd written each answer on the subsequent line, which resulted in all the right answers being wring because they were out of context. Normally, he was hyper alert and never made such petty mistakes but last night he'd had a rough time getting to sleep. It hadn't been his roommate this time, either. His roommate was prone to having issues--painful issues--and he wasn't alone in this. Bellamy had some painful issues of his own in the form of his abilities. Sometimes, when he didn't expend enough energy during the course of a day, it would build up until it snapped back on him. This resulted in horrible migraines and no amount of medication had staved this one off. So he'd spent all night lying awake in agony.

Today, the migraine was little more than a steady headache beating against his skull. He'd expended some energy in a training room for an hour before class. But it had still been difficult to focus. Damn it. He would have aced the test, headache or no, if he'd only written the answers on the right line!

He sighed and since nobody else seemed to be in this particular hallway, he leaned heavily against a wall and dug around in his pocket for some more headache medicine. Eventually, this pain had to die down. He tossed back two pills, dry swallowing them before he allowed himself to slide down the wall and rest. Just a couple of minutes and he'd go study or whatever it was he had to do next.

Atara sighed, idly flipping through her phone contacts, wondering who she could bother. She had finished up her homework a while ago and wasn't really in the mood for a workout. Sylvi was always fun, but she had to be careful with that game. Push the buttons too hard, too fast and your toy would break.

Strolling down the hallway, Atara closed her phone with a sigh. She wanted fresh meat, a new game. Why did this place have to be so damn dull!

Turning a hallway, she blinked in surprise at the sight of some skinny freak looking kid curled up. She had seen him before, though couldn't recall his name. Always very standoff-ish. That only meant they reacted well when poked.

Leaning over, Atara tilted her head, reaching out to poke the boy lightly, "What are you doing down there?"

Bellamy wasn't a fan of being touched. He jolted away from the girl's poke and immediately glowered. That wasn't practiced--that was pure annoyance. He only knew her in passing, as he did with everybody here. He had no friends. He didn't want any friends. He tried to make that abundantly clear. She only seemed to be playing around, but he didn't care.

"I'm playing a game," he said in a tone that said he definitely wasn't.

Her hand still close to Bellamy, Atara flicked him in the head, irritated, "Now now. No need to be rude." Well, he was a prickly one, wasn't he. That could be fun.

Smiling pleasantly now, Atara straightened, "Well, if you're going to be playing a game, it's just sad if you play by yourself. I'll play a game with you."

Most people knew a hint when they got one. Apparently, this girl did not. Bellamy looked at her, waiting for her to get the picture, but she in fact, seemed fueled by his irritation. And she was either taking his words literally or she was messing with him. Both made him instantly dislike her.

"Not all games are meant for more than one player. Solitaire comes to mind." He rose up off the ground and started down the hallway, purely intending on giving her another hint.

Well well. He wanted to get lippy did he. Cute. Following after him, Atara slid one arm around his waist. He didn't seem the type that was much of a people person, which was fine by her. It made it easy to watch him flip.

Pressing her hip against his, Atara smiled, batting her eyelashes at him, "Well well. Aren't you mean. A girl offers to play a game with you and you turn her down. You must be gay or clueless."

His first instinct was to hit her in the solar plexus with a palm. He didn't, though he did feel his arm tense and move as if to do just that. It was only as he realized she wasn't actually attacking him that he stopped himself. But he still was far from happy that a total stranger was touching him in what he perceived was a suggestive manner. What was wrong with her? The more prickly he was towards her, the more bothersome she became. He didn't attack her, it was true. But he did move away from her and he watched her through narrowed and wary eyes, as if he expected her to pounce. He didn't know her. She very well might. So far, she hadn't displayed the usual reaction to this sort of behavior. Which was generally "What's his problem?" Followed by snickers or confused and dirty looks. He was having a hard time understanding why she was different.

"Try neither. Maybe I'm just not interested."

"Well now you are just being hurtful." Atara gave a small laugh and closed the distance between them again, her arm wrapping around his shoulders, "You'll start hurting my delicate feelings soon." So cute. He got so grumpy at everything!

She would have to be careful. Kid was a fighter, though that was a perk of reading minds. Gives some time to dodge the attack, "Now be nice to your superior darling. Let's start with your name." She gave him a bright, cheerful smile, arm tightening around his shoulders to keep him from moving away again.

Wow. Somebody didn't have any sense of self-preservation. Bellamy didn't think of himself as having a big head, and he didn't know who she was or what her abilities were, or even what she'd been before being dumped here, but having once lived a life as an assassin, he felt he at least should be able to do something. Only, here she was, getting in his business, bursting his personal space bubble, and touching him. Clearly, she was trying to get a rise out of him. He tried to shrug her off, but her arm tightened, keeping him locked to her side.

The superior remark got to him. So she was higher up on the chain? Great. That meant she was likely more powerful, more influential, and more knowledgeable. He wasn't afraid, but he was annoyed and uncomfortable. Did she really think he was going to tell her his name? He had zero reason to at this point. He just wanted her to go away and leave him alone. He could hardly afford to do something stupid at this stage. He was already skating on thin ice. If he got into a fight...

"That's none of your business," he said. And he didn't care if she had delicate feelings, because so far, he didn't believe that. She was trying to joke with him, it seemed. Either that or she was delusional. He was starting to believe the latter. Why was she being so aggressive? What had he done to command her attention? And how did he make it stop?

"You are ugly," he said, completely deadpan, hoping that would work. Hey, he'd heard somebody say that insulting a girl's looks was tantamount to attacking a man in the crotch. It was worth a try.

(I am /so/ sorry that I made you wait so long D8 I am a bad panda!)

Atara froze, her eye twitching slightly and her arm tightened around Bellamy's shoulders, "What?" Spinning, Atara slammed the kid up against the wall, her voice tight with anger, "What did you say Gracie?"

She would break his fucking head open for that comment. How dare the little queer tell her she was ugly?!

(xD It's all right! I've been on the slow train all week.)

Every muscle in Bellamy's body tensed as he was slammed against the wall, his head cracking against it. The pain lanced through the back of his skull, but he was pretty sure he'd be okay. It was better than breaking his neck in an attempt to stop it from happening--not that he'd been given enough time to do so, anyway. The girl was fast, and now she was angrier than a... He couldn't think of a good analogy that had never been used. Hornet's nest? Tiger with its tail caught? Mama bear? His head, which had already hurt before she had shown up, was now pounding with such ferocity he felt like he was going to throw up. He wanted to hold his temples, cradle his head and curl up and sleep. Instead, he was pressed against a damn wall.

"I said you're ugly," he reiterated, voice faint. He wanted to teleport. But she was still in proximity. Maybe he could slide away if he concentrated hard enough, the way he could remove an organ without teleporting an entire person... He closed his eyes.

((Lemme know if you want me to edit any of this or if I went too far ^__^))

That got a snarl of rage from Atara, slamming Bellamy's head into the wall several times until she heard the wet crunch of his nose breaking. Her voice was a low, angry hiss up against his ear, "I will give you one more chance to take that back."

She kept her hand fisted in his hair. Atara much preferred to mess with people than out right violence. But she was not afraid to use it if necessary. There was a cretin satisfaction in breaking someone.

Whatever concentration Bellamy strove for was completely shattered with his nose. Yes. He'd definitely messed with the wrong person. Oops...? The pain was incredible, the haze about his vision made it very difficult to concentrate, but he attempted to ignore the pain and instead looked to the angry woman who now held his hair in her fist. Should he? Take it back...? It meant she was winning. Perhaps he had dealt with this... His brain couldn't connect very well. Unable to even string thoughts coherently between the headache he'd had before he ran into her and the new pain, he decided it didn't matter who "won."

"I ...take it back..." He said, looking her in the eye, his voice muffled--since his nose was pretty busted up.

"Good!" Atara released Bellamy's hair, beaming brightly at his bloody face, "You really must learn how to talk to ladies." Reaching up, she fixed her hair, smoothing back strands that had come lose from her pony tail. This one might be fun to play with, might not. She would have to see.

But she already had so many new toys. It was so hard being popular, ones event calendar just filled up so fast! "I did you a favor really gracie. You'll learn soon. How this place works." Leaning down, Atara kissed his cheek, "Don't mess with your superiors."
